The Bajaj CNG bike will be launched in the next few months and we have already seen the bike numerous times. So, here’s a lowdown on what we know about the bike so far:
Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director of Bajaj Auto, has confirmed in a recent interview that the upcoming CNG bike from Bajaj will be launched within the first quarter of FY2025, which will be between April and June 2024. It is expected to be priced around the Rs 80,000 (ex-showroom) mark. At this price point, the CNG bike will be able to compete with other 100-110cc bikes in the petrol-powered segment.
The Bajaj CNG bike gets an LED headlight with bulb indicators and the sleek looking taillight could be LED too. The CNG bike will come with a braced handlebar with handguards, mid-set footpegs, heel and toe shifter, a compact engine guard, belly pan, single-piece grab rail, alloy wheels and slightly upswept stubby exhaust. Overall, the design seems to have been inspired by the Bajaj CT125X.
The upcoming CNG bike from Bajaj will get a sloper-like engine to keep the heat away from the tank as seen in the most recent round of spy shots. While its engine looks like it’s a 110-125cc one, it’s likely that the bike will get a 125cc motor. This will help the bike achieve performance levels of a 110cc bike as CNG is not as power dense as petrol. It will have a CNG cylinder underneath the long and flat single-piece seat and a large panel gap on the fuel tank that opens up to access the valve of the CNG tank. It will most likely get a smaller auxiliary petrol tank as well which will be used whenever the bike runs out of CNG. There is a blue switch on the left switchgear and our guess is that it could be used to switch between the petrol and CNG modes manually.
The Bajaj CNG bike will come with a telescopic fork and monoshock suspension setup. Braking duties will be handled by a front disc and a rear drum brake. We haven’t seen an ABS sensor on the spied bike, which further confirms our assumption that the engine capacity will be 125cc or less. This is because two-wheelers with displacement less than 125cc will only require CBS (Combined Braking System) instead of ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) , according to the current safety norms. The bike will come fitted with tubeless street tyres.
When launched, the Bajaj CNG bike will be the first of its kind in India and won’t have any direct rivals. But it will face market competition from 100-110cc fuel-efficient bikes such as Hero Splendor Plus, TVS Radeon, Honda Shine 100 and Bajaj Platina 110.
