Toyota Innova Crysta prices will start from 13.84 lakh rupees(ex-showroom, Mumbai), for the base 2.4 litre variant. That's just a slight premium over the previous generation model that used to retail at around 13.74 lakh rupees(ex-showroom, Mumbai). The top-end 2.8 litre variant will set you back by 20.78 lakh rupees. Stay tuned for detailed variant wise prices!
The new Innova Crysta looks quite nice. But I think Toyota is getting carried away with the success of the Innova. It has handed the "taxi" segment over on a platter to the Mahindra Xylo and Chevrolet Tavera / Enjoy market. When the Innova was launched in 2005, it was priced around Rs. 7 lakh to Rs. 12 lakh. Now Toyota is going after a premium market at around the Rs. 15 lakh - Rs. 22 lakh price point. Sure, there really is no competition there, as it competes mainly with the XUV500 in that space. The Tata Aria is as good as dead until the Tata Hexa comes along - and who knows what Tata will price the Hexa at this time. Still those are SUVs, while this is clearly MPV - and in a segment that is untapped. Question is, will it still manage to sell 4000-5000 a month?
I guess it will not, the SUV craze has gripped our general conscience. An MPV is not appealing, and fewer people want practicality instead of style and character. At an estimated price tag of about 15 lakh rupees, I guess people would happily go for a Hyundai Creta, Mahindra XUV500 or even maybe the upcoming Tata Hexa, than being seen driving around an MPV(unless he genuinely needs a seven seater). Toyota's plan of keeping the Innova Crysta out of the hands of potential taxi buyers(higher prices), will backfire in my opinion.
