With Toyota giving buyers the option of a 2.7-litre petrol engine with automatic box as well, I expect these numbers to climb further.
JOY | 8 years agoJijoMalayil Almost every other person asking me about the Innova Crysta are thinking of upgrading to the 2.8L AT than the manual 2.4 and 90% have either an existing Innova or a Qualis and all of them swear by the vehicle even without even driving it. Such is their confidence in the product. I also encourage people to buy the 2.8L AT and enjoy it before these stupid bans force every maker towards smaller displacement engines only.
Jijo | 8 years agoMore than 50 percent of Toyota Innova Crysta buyers opted for the 2.8L AT variant, while 95% of its customers are personal buyers. In July, Toyota sold 7,800 units of the Toyota Innova Crysta.
Ronny | 8 years agoAt 19.5 Lacs INR Innova is definitly commanding premium over its rival & in return they are giving only the features which doesn't even justify that premium over its rivals. It seems that to counter the losses incurred during Ban on diesel cars above 2000+ CC Toyota has played a premium game. Lolz Jokes apart Toyota as a brand has no doubt set a benchmark in terms of reliabilty & fuss free ownership but that also doesn't justify its premium. We have competent rivals in the segment as Lodgy & Tata Aria (upcoming Hexa), Aria is even offered in 4X4 & still commands a lower price. That's the price when the engine is being produced in india not being imported. I remember the time when innova was launched in 2005 close INR 6.8 lakhs mark which seemed perfect for the vehicle. To me Toyota will still rule the MPV segment with Innova no matter the ban will be lifted or not
Jijo | 8 years agoToyota has claimed a loss of nearly Rs 1700 crore, with respect to the 2000 + cc diesel ban. Toyota’s popular Innova Crysta and Fortuner have been kept off the shelf in Delhi (and now in top cities of Kerela) due to the ban. Toyota cited that diesel ban has severely impacted the company’s operations in India by leading to a production loss of 8,500 units of the Toyota Innova Crysta and Fortuner.
Jijo | 8 years agoToyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) Director and Senior Vice-President (Sales and Marketing) N Raja said, “The petrol Innova Crysta will be powered by a 2.7 litre new engine. Although the launch is for all India, it has been brought mainly with a view to address consumers and dealers in Delhi-NCR, where we have not been selling the MPV for the last eight months.” Atleast in the NCR region, people now have an option of going for the new Innova Crysta now. Even without the petrol variant, Innova Crysta is clocking nearly 8000 units in a month.
Roshun | 8 years agoI agree with Shreyans. The petrol Innova Crysta will account for barely 10% of its sales,as such a large petrol engine is not fuel efficient. Mileage will be in the single digits at most times. It would be decent for corporate purchases perhaps, but not for long haul duties. However, we may see this variant getting CNG very soon. That may work.
Shreyans | 8 years agoI dont see NCR buyers flocking to book the petrol Crysta. The very idea of a big petrol engine powering a big and heavy UV seems unfathomable to a large number of prospective customers, yours truly included. This is going to be a guzzler and resale value will be nothing to talk about. Innova's biggest strength is its assured resale; that advantage is lost here. Plus, those looking for a 'big' but not necessarily a 7 seater car now have the option of the Creta. It is well engineered, preimum and has no major compromises.
JOY | 8 years agoToyota's cash registers are going to run in full swing now.Trivandrum roads are already flocked with Crysta's as of now. There is no stopping them now.Hope the dealer attitude does not go down further with overwhelming sales.
Jijo | 8 years agoToyota has launched the Innova Crysta petrol with prices starting Rs 13.72 lakh and goes up to Rs 19.62 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Powered by a 2.7 litre VVT-i engine which produces 166PS of power and 245Nm of torque. The engine will be mated to either a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. Toyota can finally breate a sigh of relief as the manufacturer will be able to sell the Innova in NCR region. Earlier the Supreme Court had banned all 2,000cc+ diesel from being sold in the Delhi/NCR region. With the introduction of a petrol motor, Toyota will be able to further boost Innova's already rocketing sales figures.
Vidit | 8 years agoJijoMalayil, really looking forward to driving the Petrol variant. It is a great engine and is much better than the 2.0liter petrol that came in the earlier Innova. This 2.7 engine will put India on par with the global market where it has been selling for a long time.
Jijo | 8 years agoToyota Innova Crysta petrol variant have been spotted at various dealer stockyards in India. The only differentiation with the two diesel variants currently on sale is the ‘2.7’ badge on the tailgate. The 2.7 litre VVT-i engine produces 164 hp and 25 kgm of torque. Expect the petrol variants to come with either a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic, and the top-end Z with only a 6-speed automatic in India. Image:-gaadiwaadi.com
Nikil | 8 years agoUpdate: Toyota has apparently started taking bookings for the petrol variant of the Innova Crysta, according to this article on CarDekho’s website: Prices for the petrol variant are expected to start at Rs 14.7 lakh. Deliveries are expected to start in August. There may be a formal launch event later this month too. The petrol variant of Toyota’s popular MUV will allow the Japanese car manufacturer to sell the Crysta in Delhi where a Supreme Court imposed ban on diesel vehicles with engine capacity above 2,000cc is in place. The petrol variant will be powered by a 2.7-litre unit. It is unclear what transmission the engine could be mated to. Toyota hasn’t confirmed if the petrol variant would be available with an automatic gearbox yet. The last time the Innova had a petrol engine under the hood was launched way back in 2005. Then, Toyota employed a smaller 2.0-litre engine under the Innova’s hood. The manufacturer had to discontinue that model due to low demand. The Innova Crysta has been selling like hot cakes across the country with Toyota managing to sell a total of 7,259 units in May and 7,500 units in June. With the launch of the petrol option, expect these figures to breach the 8,000-mark. Toyota recently said it was going to increase the production of the Crysta to cut long waiting periods .
Nikil | 8 years agoET Auto has reported that Toyota has received around 30,000 bookings for the Innova Crysta. Half of these booking, the article claims, is for the more powerful 2.8-litre model with an automatic gearbox. The strong demand for Toyota’s latest MUV has led to a waiting period of three months now. N Raja, Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s director and senior vice-president (sales & marketing), confirmed that the company has increased the production rate of the latest MUV to 7,800 units a month - up from 6,000 earlier. OEMs too have been requested to hasten deliveries. Toyota sold 7,500 units of the Innova Crytsa in June. In May though, the Innova Crysta outsold the Maruti Vitara Brezza and the Hyundai Creta, two of the most popular SUVs in the country, and become the top-selling Utility Vehicle and the 9th best-selling vehicle of the month. Meanwhile, as you’ve read before on this thread, Toyota is set to introduce a petrol-variant of the Innova Crysta with a 2.7-litre VVT-i four cylinder engine to circumvent the ban on diesel cars with a capacity of above 2,000cc in Delhi NCR region. The production of this variant is likely to commence on July 18.
Praveen | 8 years agoJijoMalayil I say, place a nice table at the center and hide it! :P
Jijo | 8 years agoPraveen All is well and good. But, doesn't that central tunnel fuck up the whole design theme? :p
Praveen | 8 years agoI think the Innova Crysta has a lot of umm, 'lounge friendly' mod potential. DC designs has already teased the Crysta lounge. Check it out: As expected, the rear is completely overhauled, including a partition at the second row with a retractable LED screen! Other details include wooden touches, chrome inserts and a provision for Tablet. What do you guys think?
Nikil | 8 years agoI'd choose the Innova Cysta in a heartbeat. Not only does it look fresh, it's packed with features too. Saw a number of Crysta's on the streets of Pune and Bangalore and boy does it look massive. I think it looks bigger than the XUV as well. And that sofa Toyota likes to call a seat is the best damn thing I've sat on. Too bad it can't be sold in Delhi for the time being. It would have been a massive hit here.
Jijo | 8 years agoOkay, the million dollar question. Toyota Innova Crysta automatic or Mahindra XUV500 automatic? Let's see if folks at Cardekho have an answer to this.
Nikil | 8 years agoThe production of the petrol variant of the Innova Crysta will begin on July 18, says a report from GaadiWaadi. The introduction of the petrol variant is much needed as that is the only way Toyota can circumvent the Supreme Court’s ban on diesel vehicles with displacement above 2,000cc in the National Capital Region. The ban has led to sales of the Innova and the Fortuner drop by 7 percent. The petrol engine, as many have mentioned here earlier, is the 2.7-litre four-cylinder VVT-i unit that produces 164PS of power. The petrol variant will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox, something that is missing in the diesel variant sold across the country currently. An automatic version is likely to be introduced at a later date too,
Shreyans | 8 years agoI got a call from the dealer today, saying that the Crysta is finally available on display. Test drives are being given and they are now accepting bookings as well. Funny thing, they are promising deliveries July 13th onwards. This is very surprising as there is no news of the 2 liter diesel ban being lifted. Till now, the car had not been on display and they were categorically refusing to take bookings for as long as the ban was in place.
Jijo | 8 years agoCorsaVeloce Sorry for calling the Innova a van :p The older Innova's ride quality was one of the best, and the new one takes it to the next level! The only car that can give the Innova a run for money in that respect is the new Ford Endevour 3.2. Don't you think?
Nikil | 8 years agoI think the the high asking price for the Innova Crysta is justified. The older one was a very comfortable car but Toyota kept increasing the price year by year for the same old car. Now that there is a new Innova, a much better one at that, I think it's only right that the customer pays for what it's worth. I sat in one at the Auto Expo and what I can say is that the second row of seats is very plush. In fact, among SUVs and MUVs, it might be the most comfortable seats I've even placed my bum on. If I were to buy one, I would go for the one with bucket seats in the second row rather than the one with the bench seat.
Vidit | 8 years agoJijoMalayil, come on bro. You cannot call the Crysta a 'Van'. It is far more comfortable than the XUV500 and the better choice for long trips. Also, the number of people buying lining up to buy this car are mostly Innova loyalists. The ride quality and seat comfort, especially in the middle row, is unmatched. Even in cars that cost twice as much, The rear seats and interior have been given a full Camry-like treatment and hence is a great palce to be in.
Jijo | 8 years agoShreyans I honestly did not expect this kind of numbers for the new Crysta. 20 lacs for a Van? I thought people will happily go for a Mahindra XUV500 instead. But, the Toyota brand reliablilty and the how good a package Crysta is, no wonder!
Roshun | 8 years agoShreyans It is a case study on how a reliable brand image can do such wonders. When Toyota launched the Innova in 2005, the starting price was Rs 6.99 lakh, going up to Rs 11 odd lakh. Now prices start at 13.5 and go all the way to 20+ lakh. Toyota has definitely taken it up a notch.
Shreyans | 8 years agoThese are phenomenal numbers for a 20L rupee van. This is proof that if people see value in your product, they are more than willing to open their purse strings. I can only imagine how much better the response would have been had there been no ban in Delhi NCR.
Jijo | 8 years agoToyota Innova Crysta retains segment leader status, with over 7,259 units of the vehicle sold in May 2016. This is a impressive 44% increase when compared to the sales figure of the month of May, 2015. No stopping Toyota then, i guess!
Nikil | 8 years agoN Raja, director and senior vice-president (sales and marketing) Toyota Kirloskar Motor, has again gone on record saying the company had lost 7 per cent sales of the Toyota Innova and the Fortuner due to the diesel ban in Delhi NCR. The ban also affected the launch of the new Innova Crysta and has also media the company to revaluate its investment in India. Toyota has confirmed that it introduce petrol variants of the Innova Crysta and the next generation Fortuner for cities where the ban has been imposed. The engine will be a 2.7-litre four-cylinder VVT-i unit that produces 164PS of power and paired to a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
Nikil | 8 years agoToyota Kirloskar Motor’s managing director, N Raja, has told ET Auto that the new Innova Crysta has recorded 20,000 bookings so far. Most of the bookings are said to be for the top-end 2.8 ZX variant with an automatic gearbox which is priced at Rs 20.78 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). These figures would have been higher if not for the ban of diesel cars with engine capacity above 2000cc in the National Capital Region. Since the ban, Toyota has decided to introduce a petrol variant of the Innova Crysta by Diwali. The petrol variant is likely to be powered by a 2.7-litre VVT-i four cylinder engine.
Nikil | 8 years agoN Raja, the director and senior vice-president of sales and marketing at Toyota Kirloskar Motors, in an interview with the Financial Express has confirmed that the petrol variant of the Innova Crysta will be launched some time around Diwali. The ban on diesel cars with displacement of over 2000cc in NCR has affected manufacturers like Toyota, Tata and Mercedes. Mahindra was quick on its feet and introduced the 1.99-litre variant of the Scorpio and XUV500. Now other manufacturers are considering the petrol route to sell their luxury cars in NCR. Any takers for a petrol Innova Crysta?
Shreyans | 8 years ago
So, the new Innova Crysta has received over 15,000 booking till now! They were unofficially open from February, right after the Delhi Auto Expo 2016. But, still these figures are staggering
The number would have been much higher had bookings been open in NCR as well. So many people had been waiting for this car for more than an year. If you want a proper 7 seat option in the 10-25L price range then the Innova is your only option. By giving it the 2.8 175hp engine, premium cabin and by improving the feature set and comfort, Toyota has moved the game forward and thrown the gauntlet to the likes of the Jetta and Superb as well. Every single vehicle of this price is a depreciation disaster, but not the Innova. Buyers on a budget are willing to stretch to the Crysta while buyers of a segment above are also more than happy to settle for it. The customer is willing to spend if he sees value. This 25L MPV is coming across as value for money. It is selling.
Rajnish | 8 years agoYes amazing figures! What is even more surprising is that 60% of the bookings are for automatic! Source: http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/auto/news/toyota-loses-7-annual-sales-owing-to-diesel-ban-in-ncr/articleshow/52262717.cms The figures would have been even higher if the Delhi ban was not there :)
"We have received 15,000 bookings. We are enthused by the response. We are looking at selling 72,000 units of the Innova in a year," said Shekhar Vishwanathan, vice chairman of Toyota Kirloskar Motor, the Indian unit of the Japanese automaker. "Around 7% of our annual sales have been lost because of the diesel ban in NCR. We are hoping it will be lifted soon," he said.
Jijo | 8 years agoSo, the new Innova Crysta has received over 15,000 booking till now! They were unofficially open from February, right after the Delhi Auto Expo 2016. But, still these figures are staggering

Jijo | 8 years agoWhat are Innova Crysta's possible rivals? Mahindra XUV500 and the upcoming Tata Hexa fits the bill. Both Hexa and Innova Crysta are both body on frame construction, while the XUV500 is a monocoque type construction. Mahindra has made sure that the XUV500 looks like a proper SUV, and gets an AWD variant. Hexa is also slated to come in a AWD variant. Now to the specifications. Hexa gets the largest dimensions. The Innova Crysta gets the most powerful engine with the 2.8 litre variant.
Praveen | 8 years agoINR 20 lac for a glorified MPV? Seems a bit too much, doesn't it? I wish it came with rear touchscreen to keep the passengers entertained. Here's a video review by Autocar:
Jijo | 8 years agoToyota launched the Innova Crysta on May 2, 2016, at a starting price of Rs 13.83 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai) for the base 2.4 litre variant. The previous generation Innova was launched in 2005, and went on to become a huge hit, selling over six lakh units. The term “Innova” became a synonym for reliability and rock solid build quality over the years. After many small facelifts, which were mainly cosmetic, Toyota has finally brought us the Innova Crysta. Point to be noted is that Toyota has already stopped the previous generation Innova production a few months before. So the new Innova Crysta will completely replace the older model. Here are the variant wise prices INR, lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai) for the new Innova Crysta (the one's in bold are the automatic variants): 2.4 G 7 Str MT – Rs 13.83 lakh 2.4 G 8 Str MT – Rs 13.88 lakh 2.4 GX 7 Str MT – Rs 14.69 lakh 2.8 GX 7 Str AT – Rs 15.99 lakh 2.4 GX 8 Str MT – Rs 14.74 lakh 2.8 GX 8 Str AT – Rs 16.04 lakh 2.4 VX 7 Str MT – Rs 17.53 lakh 2.4 VX 8 Str MT – Rs 17.57 lakh 2.4 ZX 7 Str MT – Rs 19.47 lakh 2.8 ZX 7 Str AT – Rs 20.77 lakh Check out the whole Toyota Innova Story since it’s unveil at the Auto Expo 2016. [*]17 inch wheels on the top end variants. [*]Powered driver seat, easy slide front seats from the rear, one touch tumble second row. [*]People with large families who travel together [*]Premium taxi services.
The Innova Crysta comes with two engine options. A 2.4-litre engine produces 150 PS and an impressive 343 Nm torque. While, the 2.8 litre version puts out of 174 PS of max power and 360 Nm of peak torque. The 2.4 litre engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission only. While, the 2.8 litre variants gets a 6-speed automatic.
