Volkswagen at Indian Auto Show unveiled their plug-in hybrid version of their flagship sedan Passat GTE. Part of Volkswagen’s global focus on electric vehicles.
Passat GTE is powered by an electric article and a TSI engine. The Passat GTE comes with a Petrol- Electric Hybrid power train mated a –speed DSG gearbox and has a combined power output of approximately 218 PS, while the combined torque figures stand at 400 Nm.
This being a plug-in hybrid it is capable of running on electric power only for a distance of 50 kilometers. The batteries can be charged up in less than four hours making it very practical for daily city runs. As per the Euro specs, Passat GTE claims an average fuel consumption of 62.5 km/l. Both engines put together has a combined range of 1000 kilometers. Passat GTE can accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h in 8 seconds.
Volkswagen as loaded Passat GTE to the brim with features like Driver Alert System, Automatic Post-Collision braking, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Rain Sensor, Park Pilot among others.
Passat GTE will be capable of delivering EU 6 emission norms. Expect Passat at Volkswagen stores across India by mid-2016. Volkswagen is likely to price the Passat GTE near the 30 lakh rupee mark in India, with its rival the Toyota Camry Hybrid being in that price bracket.
