Ford is all set to launch the new Endeavour by the year-end. The new model will follow the 'One Ford' for the world mission that the manufacturer set for itself at the end of the last decade. With ever-stringent emission and crash safety norms, one might be led to believe that the manufacturer would make the Endy tamer by basing it on a monocoque structure and fitting a smaller displacement engine. And to those few I say, DON'T FRET. The new Endeavour, like all true-blood off-roaders will be based on a ladder-frame chassis and to power this behemoth Ford has employed the duty of all-new engines. And yes they offer more power than before.
But let's leave the powertrain aside for now and go straight to the design.
The Endeavour being a full-grown SUV is all brawn and muscle and looks imposing, intimidating even. The design definitely feels fresh and striking when compared to the Toyota Fortuner (the market leader since launch 6 years back. The front end is dominated by a huge trapezoildal grille keeping in line with Ford's Kinetic Edge design philosophy. The headlamps are swept back units that look nice. The bumper comes with a skid plate that also houses rectangular fog lamps.
The side profile truly reveals the size of the Endy and the massive 20-inch alloys are certainly one of the best we have seen on any SUV in India. The faux air vents below the A-pillar look good and gives it off-roading cred in form if not on function. As you move to the back the silver skid plates and chrome strip running across the car shows you how wide it really is. I just wish the Endy had a tailgate-mounted spare wheel like the previous generation.
Clamber over inside and you are greeted with dual-tone interiors (black & beige) and a slightly large steering wheel. The instrument cluster is a semi-digital unit. The LCD on the right side of the console can be switched from a tachometer to driver info display. It also shows driver assist settings, terrain management system modes and various other functions. In the front, the Endy comes with two thrones for seats and the driver-side seat is expected to be a powered unit. The dashboard looks neat with the black, matte silver and beige combination. The 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system looks premium and controls functions for the music system, dual-zone climate control and others. Next to the gear lever is a chunky rotary knob for the terrain response system similar to the one found in Land Rovers.

The all-new Ford Endeavour, despite being smaller than the current model, offers more space for the middle and third row passengers. Air-vents in the roof liner ensures that the cabin is cooled fast. The middle row can also slide forward or backwards liberating more space and they recline as well. Compared to its competition, the Endeavour has ample room in the third row. The boot is humongous offering 2,010 litres with the third row folded. The Endeavour sold in Thailand (as the Everest) gets a massive panoramic sunroof. But its highly unlikely that this feature will make it to India.
The all new Ford Endeavour is loaded to gills with features like Active Park Assist, Sync 2 Voice Command System, Hill Descent, Electronic Hill Descent, Electronic Stability Control and more. Ford has even equipped the Endeavour with sound deadening materials and Active Noise Cancellation Technology to make the cabin quieter.
Under the hood of the Endeavour is a brand new 2.2-litre 4-cylinder engine that makes 160PS of max power and 385Nm of torque. This could be the pick of the litter for fuel conscious buyers. But for the more discerning customer Ford is also offering a 3.2-litre engine with 200PS and a gargantuan 470Nm of torque on tap. The larger engine will be offered with 4x4 option (all-wheel drive) and is loaded with features such as electronic locking differential and Terrain Management System. Both engines can be specified with a 6-speed auto transmission as well.
The all new Endeavour with it's set of features and looks to kill has the potential to become the segment leader again. Or at least till the new Toyota Fortuner arrives.
