Mercedes AMG GT S, one of the most awaited cars of this year is out in India . This is the second model to come entirely out of the AMG stable after the SLS AMG. The car goes up against the likes of Porsche 911 and Jaquar F-type.
Powering the supercar is a massive 4.0 litre V8 bi-turbo engine churning out 503 PS and 650 Nm of touque. With a dry weight of 209 kgs it is also the lightest engine in its segment. This is mated to the dual-clutch, seven-speed AMG Speedshift transmission, with power going to the rear wheels. It can propel the car from standstill to 100 kmph in just 3.8 seconds, hitting a top speed of 310 kmph.
The AMG GT S gets an aluminium space frame with independent double-wishbone suspension all round and adjustable damping as standard. Dry sump lubrication, ceramic brakes, forged wheels, dynamically adjusting engine and transmission mounts further make the AMG GT S track worthy.
Being the car that replaces the SLS, it had to have presence. AMG GT S manages to acheive just that even without those gull-wing door that used to come with SLS. GT with its long bonnet, short coupe-roofed cabin and a shorter boot. The massive SLS inspired grill an those angled headlamps gives it a classic feel. The 19 and 20 inch at the fron and the rear respectively completes the design rather well.
Look inside, the two seater setup has a unique design unlike other Mercedes. The center console which rises up to merge into the dashboard. The center armrest is also placed high which housing storage compartment. GT S is loaded to the brim with features like 8.4 inch TFT screen sitting on top synced to an updated version of Merc's COMMAND system. The gear shift knob is awkwardly placed in between the seats and will be pain for frequent usage. Paddle shift come as standard, which is must in this segment of cars. Storage spaces are decent with spaces inside door side pockets, glove box and central armrest.
The AMG GT S is out with a sticker price of 2.4 crore in India. Expect to see a few on road very soon.
