1. Front flip-open seat with upright lockable mechanism
The new Mahindra Gusto comes with a unique seat which flips open from the front, unlike traditional rear flip open seats of automatic scooters. And there’s more – a self-locking mechanism ensures that the upright seat stays up without the rider having to hold the seat while refueling or while accessing the underseat storage. It’s a small feature, but one that promises to provide a lot of convenience to riders.
2. Height adjustable seat
Mahindra Two Wheelers says the Gusto is designed for the entire family – so that husband, wife and even young adults can all ride the same scooter. The seat has a unique position adjuster which helps maintain two different heights – with a difference of 35 mm. It may not seem much as a number, but the height difference feels significant while astride the scooter and will be a huge advantage to ladies and riders of short stature.
3. Front kickstarter for easy starting
The Gusto comes with push button start as standard. But Mahindra has also kitted it out with a kickstarter and one in which the lever is placed towards the front. Effectively, the rider can kickstart the Gusto while seated, without having to get down and kickstart as is the case traditionally in automatic scooters. This, Mahindra says, gives Gusto riders a sense of novelty, like that of kickstarting a motorcycle.
4. Cubbyhole storage for cellphones and other objects
Clearly, Mahindra has given a lot of thought to riders of the fairer sex. The seat height as well as an additional cubbyhole to keep a mobile phone or a small purse even will be of great help to ladies who may be dressed in traditional salwar kameez or may not have too many pockets in their attire to store a mobile phone.
5. Flip key with ‘find-me’ beeper
The Gusto also gets a flip-open key, again not only providing a sense of novelty but also has a unique ‘find-me’ feature. It’s not remotely lockable, or unlockable, but one press of a switch on the flip-key makes the scooter beep and flash its lights – useful for locating the scooter in a crowded parking lot.
6. 12-inch wheels with front telescopic shocks
The Mahindra Gusto comes kitted out with 12-inch wheels both front and rear. This not only improves ride quality but also gives the Gusto the highest ground clearance in its segment at 165mm. So, broken roads or tackling potholes, the Gusto has a slight advantage over its competition. The front suspension is also a telescopic one with air springs. It not only absorbs bumps fairly well but also improves handling. The suspension also negates out bumps to the handlebars, giving an assured and planted feel to the rider.
Yes, it certainly makes a very compelling case for itself – the Mahindra Gusto. It may have been late to join the sales party in this segment of scooters, but Mahindra has thought out this product well. And with features like these, it promises to attract consumers – and that too, not limited to any particular age group or sex.
