In a recent post-earnings investor call, Hero MotoCorp has given a tentative launch timeline for their upcoming scooters

Hero MotoCorp showcased the Xoom 125R sporty scooter and the Xoom 160 maxi-scooter at EICMA 2023, but has been silent about their launch since. However, at the recently held post-earnings investors call, Hero MotoCorp has revealed that the two scooters will be launched by the end of this financial year.

Hero is gradually stepping up to the premium segment, with the recently launched Hero Mavrick 440, and taking over the India operations of Harley-Davidson. On the same lines, they also want to up their scooter game, starting with the two upcoming scooters.

The Xoom 125R will be a sporty scooter that will compete with the likes of the TVS NTorq and the Aprilia SR 125, while the Xoom 160 will be a maxi-scooter aimed squarely at the Yamaha Aerox 155. That said, Hero is more likely to launch the Xoom 125 first, likely by the end of the calendar year as the 125cc sporty scooter segment is hotly contested, and is primarily dominated by the TVS NTorq 125. Moreover, the company also emphasised the importance of securing a good chunk of the market share in the 125cc segment, and the recent launch of the Xtreme 125R is a testament to that pursuit. On the other hand, the Xoom 160 will cater to the niche scooter segment, particularly for those who want a feature-packed, reasonably powerful big, burly scooter.

But before that, Hero is also considering refreshing the Xoom 110 with new colour options and possibly some cosmetic changes, which should happen this year, probably in the festive season, around October.

All of these should help Hero MotoCorp diversify their product portfolio. The brand is moving towards bifurcating their dealerships – Premia, which will sell the more premium bikes and scooters, while the regular dealerships will offer the mass-market two-wheelers. Moreover, with the launch of the Hero Mavrick 440, it’s evident that Hero is looking to grab a share of the highly-lucrative sub-500cc segment that’s primarily dominated by Royal Enfield bikes.
