Pictures of what is expected to be the next generation 2016 Hyundai Elantra have surfaced online and by the looks of it, the D-segment sedan seems to have taken its design cues from the smaller i40 and the i30.
Up front it sports a hexagonal chrome grille that looks identical to the one seen on the camouflaged test mule. The headlights are now projector type and now seem to be flanked with Daytime Running Lamps as well. The bumper too has been redesigned and is now a lot larger than the previous generation model. The fog lamps give way to vertical LEDs. The car is expected to make its debut in Korea next month followed by a launch in mid-2015.
Under the hood, the new-gen Elantra will continue to sport the 1.6-litre 4-cylinder diesel unit that in its current state of tune makes 126 horses and 259Nm. The petrol variant however will get a new heart. Instead of the 1.8-litre unit that the current Elantra has, the 2016 model will get the 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol that makes 176PS that is seen on the new Tuscon. If that happens, the 2016 Elantra will be the first of the cars in its segment to come with a turbocharged petrol engine.
Hyundai is expected to showcase the new 2016 Elantra at the Seoul Motor Show next month. The D-segment sedan is expected to make its way to Indian shores towards the end of 2015.
