Bajaj Auto has announced the global launch of the RE60 on September 25, 2015.

The RE60 is powered by a 216cc, liquid cooled, four-valve triple spark petrol engine. CNG and LPG versions will also be available.

The engine employs closed loop fuel injection and will be mated to a five-speed transmission. Power is expected to be in the region of 17-20PS on tap with similar torque figures. The RE60 derives its name from the Bajaj RE range of three-wheelers, RE for Rear Engined vehicles and the RE60 will also have the engine sit at the rear and drive the rear wheels.

The low-cost four-wheeler, termed a quadricycle, has been recognized by the government as an altogether new class of vehicles. The RE60 is expected to have claimed fuel efficiency figures of 37kmpl and low CO2 emissions of 60g/km.

Primarily built as an urban people mover, the RE60 will be a safer alternative to three wheeler scooter rickshaws and Bajaj expects to export the RE60 to overseas markets as well.
