Bajaj Auto has launched the V15 premium commuter bike in India, is priced at Rs 62,000 (ex-showroom, New Delhi). Bajaj had created a lot of excitement when it has released the teaser video of the bike on Republic Day. The video had showcased the scrap metal of the decommissioned INS Vikrant aircraft carrier being purchased by Bajaj which was melted and reused to build the V15. The letter ‘V’ denominates the name of the warship INS Vikrant.
The Bajaj V15 is more of a café-racer with hints of a cruiser bike. With the price at which it has been launched, the V15 slots itself in the gap between the Discover and Pulsar motorcycle range. The V15 is equipped with a large 18-inch alloy wheel at the front while the rear gets a smaller 16-inch alloy wheel. The chunky Eurogrip tyres give the V15 a muscular look which further complements the overall stance of the bike. Braking duties are handled by 120mm disc at the front and 130mm drum at the rear. The wheelbase of the V15 is longer by 10mm than the Bajaj Discover, providing the bike with improved stability.
The Bajaj V15 sports a retro-modern styling with a beefy look. The front sports a bikini fairing which houses the semi-digital instrumental cluster with colour changing LED lights for the fuel gauge. The fuel tank flows well with the overall form of the bike and adorns the marine-themed logo embossed on it signifying its exclusivity. The seat of the bike can be change to a single seater with the provision of a cowl to cover the pillion seat. The bike gets a trapezoidal headlight design which is claimed to be 60 per cent brighter than other bikes in the market. Bajaj has used LEDs in the rear brake lamp unit giving it a premium feel.
Powering the Bajaj V15 is an air-cooled 150cc DTS-i four-stroke single cylinder engine which produces 12PS of power at 7,500 rpm and 13Nm of peak torque at 5,500 rpm, is mated to a 5-speed gearbox.
The V15 is currently on display at authorised Bajaj dealerships across the country. The minimum booking amount for the V15 is Rs 1,000. On contacting the dealers, we have learned that deliveries of the new bike will commence from 23rd March. The premium commuter bike will available in two colour options: Ebony Black and Pearl White.
