Volkswagen, is currently facing legal issues for violating emission norm in the global market. The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) is now also testing diesel-powered passenger cars sold by other manufacturers in the country to ascertain the nitrogen oxide emissions from the vehicles.
After the Volkswagen emission scandal broke in September, the government had asked ARAI to inspect the manufacturer’s offerings in the Indian market for any violation of emission norms. ARAI had found “significant” difference between on-road emission levels and laboratory figures, of the VW Group's three diesel models in India — the VW Jetta and Vento, as well as the Audi A4.
ARAI currently has not disclosed the list of the vehicle which will be tested for violation of emission norms. However they did mention similar capacity vehicles will go under the microscope.
