Honda has vowed show goers at the 2015 Tokyo Motor show with the ‘Light Weight Super Sports’ or more commonly known as the CBR 250RR. At the time the bike showcased was in a concept form finished in bare carbon fibre. Now according to reports the Honda CBR 250RR is nearing production and it might be launched as early as August, 2016. Not to be mistaken with the Honda CBR 250R, the new CBR 250RR will be powered by a parallel twin motor and will be positioned above it as a premium quarter-litre offering from the Japanese two-wheeler giant. Other details regarding the Honda CBR 250RR is the fact that it might not be produced in Japan to keep production cost low. The likely candidates are Thailand or Indonesia.

The new motorcycle will be performance oriented unlike the sports tourer DNA of the CBR 250R and CBR 300R. From the pictures it is clear that the new Honda CBR 250RR will employ an aggressive design language with sharp body lines, sculpted fuel tank and chiselled tail section. It also sports conventional single side exhaust muffler that goes well with the overall design. The chassis has been tuned for better handling dynamics. The clip-on handle bars and rear-set footpegs should result in an aggressive and sporty riding posture. Suspension duties are handled by USD front forks and a monoshock unit at the back.

Anchorage is provided by petal disc brake at front and rear while ABS will be most likely standard. Details regarding the powerplant are scarce but expect it to be powered by a high revving, 250cc parallel twin motor with a power output of around 35 to 38PS. It is expected that the Honda CBR 250RR will be equipped with electronic goodies like traction control and ride modes which will help it distinguish itself from its rivals. There is also a higher displacement version of the new motorcycle planned for the European market in similar fashion to the Yamaha R3 and Yamaha R25.
