Honda has dominated proceedings in the Indian scooter market. But the Japanese two-wheeler giant isn’t sitting idle on its past laurels and is planning to launch a new entry-level scooter for our market. According to reports Honda is planning to launch a new scooter that will rival the TVS Scooty Zest. The new scooter will be targeted at young female buyers and will be a lightweight offering for ease of use. The new scooter will not be the first female oriented scooter from the Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer as it had launched the Honda Activa i in 2013. The new Honda scooter will be based on the Honda SCR100 scooter which is currently on sale in the Chinese and Korean markets.
The design of the Honda SCR100 is quite similar to that of the TVS Scooty Zest with a raked out front fairing that also doubles up as the mudguard. The headlamp is body mounted whereas the indicators have been placed on the handlebar. The new scooter will be crafted from fibre to keep weight and cost low. Powering the Honda SCR100 is a 100cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder unit producing 7.1PS of power and 8Nm of peak torque. The 100cc unit will be detuned for the Indian market in pursuit of better fuel efficiency and will also be equipped with the patented Honda HET tech for better fuel efficiency. The new Honda scooter will be the cheapest scooter from the Japanese two-wheeler giant for the Indian market and be priced around Rs 41,000. Watch this space for more updates.
