What is it?
The Hyundai Creta isn’t a crossover like the Hyundai i20 Active but is a proper SUV based on the Hyundai ix25, albeit in a petite dimension and will be marketed as a compact SUV. Although it wouldn’t be able to tame uncharted territories like a full blown SUV Hyundai claims that it will have decent off-road credibility. The compact dimensions and the butch looks make the Creta a great SUV option for the urban landscape. The Hyundai Creta will be positioned between its arch rivals with respect to pricing i.e. the Ford Eco Sport and the Renault Duster along with Nissan Terrano.
How much will it cost?
Hyundai are renowned for their cut throat pricing and the new Creta will follow this tradition. It is expected that the Korean carmaker will price the new Creta with a starting price of around 9 lakh for the base variant as an introductory offer to garner the sales numbers. The top-spec variant of the Hyundai Creta could be priced around Rs 13 lakh.
What’s under the hood?
The Hyundai Creta will be offered with both petrol and diesel powerplant options to further expand its appeal. The 1.6-litre displacement motor will be sourced from the Verna sedan. The 1.6-litre Hyundai Creta diesel motor will generate 128PS of maximum power and healthy 260Nm of torque which makes it significantly powerful than its rivals. The Hyundai Creta petrol variant will house a 1.6-litre petrol mill under its bonnet good enough for 123PS of peak power and 155Nm of torque.
Feature packed?
Hyundai cars are loaded to the brim with features and this something that makes them stand apart from their rivals and the Hyundai Creta wouldn’t be an exception. The Hyundai Creta will carry forward features from the i20 Elite like keyless entry, start/stop button, day time running lamps, reverse camera, Bluetooth connectivity, steering mounted controls, rear AC vents, auto folding mirrors etc. Also the interiors of the Hyundai Creta will be more plush and car like as opposed to the rugged ones of its rivals.
When can I buy one?
The Hyundai Creta will be showcased to media on July 25th with a drive happening soon. Hyundai will start marketing the Creta from next month onwards and will launch it on July 21st. Booking for the car will start from early next month with deliveries commencing soon after the car gets officially launched in India.
What’s the mileage?
Hyundai India hasn’t revealed the mileage figures for the Creta yet. But given the fact that the Creta will employ the same motor as the Hyundai Verna it is safe to assume that the car will boast an ARAI fuel efficiency figure of around 22kmpl for the diesel mill.
Anything else?
The Hyundai Creta will be a 5-seater albeit a spacious one as Hyundai is known for their clever packaging. The seats will have various folding options to hike the boot space from the standard 400 litres (assumed space) to make the car more flexible with respect to space. Hyundai will be focusing on the fact that the new Creta is a well-built, rugged SUV which also offers robust driveability
The Hyundai Creta will also have the distinction of being one of the most affordable diesel SUV in India. The 1.6-litre diesel motor will be offered most likely with a 4-speed auto transmission. Given the fact that the Hyundai Creta is more of an urban SUV, the auto transmission will find many takers owing to the arduous traffic conditions in metro cities.
