At a time when every two-wheeler manufacturer in our country is hiking the price of its products due to the increase in excise duty, Kawasaki India pulled out a surprise. The Japanese two-wheeler giant has reduced the price of the Kawasaki Z800 by Rs 50,000 in the Indian two-wheeler market. The reduced pricing is only available for a limited time period and will be offered till March 2015 when the financial year ends. The Kawasaki Z800 was launched in our market at Rs 7.9 lakh (ex-showroom) but with the reduction in price it will now retail for Rs 7.35 lakh. At this price point, the Kawasaki Z800 is Rs 30,000 cheaper than the Triumph Street Triple which carries a price tag of Rs 7.65 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
According to Kawasaki India they have been able to reduce the price of the Kawasaki Z800 owing to cost reduction that happened in the Thailand facility where the Z800 is manufactured. Kawasaki India has ruled out reduction in pricing for other premium motorcycles from its portfolio as they are manufactured in Japan. At the heart of the Z800 sits an 806cc, liquid-cooled, in-line four mill producing 113 PS at 10,200 rpm and 83.0 Nm of torque at 8,000 rpm, which is mated to a six-speed transmission. This means that the Kawasaki Z800 has an advantage of 34PS and 30Nm over the Triumph Street Triple. The Kawasaki Z800 is also the cheapest in-line-four cylinder motorcycle on sale in our market currently which might soon change after DSK-Motowheels launch the Benelli TNT 600i in India.
