Endless speculations and rumours finally came to an end when Mahindra unveiled its upcoming compact SUV to the press and public earlier this month. Mahindra also officially announced that they will call this new offering the KUV100, and it will go on sale on January 15, 2016.
Leading up to the launch, details of the Mahindra KUV100’s variant information is already out. In a typically Mahindra fashion, each of the variants will have an alphanumeric combination. The KUV100 will be introduced in four variants namely – K2, K4, K6 and K8. The lower three variants will come with safety oriented “+” badges that will come equipped with dual front airbags. Talking about safety, all variants of the KUV100 will come with Antilock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) as standard equipment.
The base K2 variant will come fitted with an adjustable steering wheel, electronic power steering, air conditioning, body coloured bumpers and a rear spoiler. While the base variant has very few features to flaunt, the K4 variant comes slightly better equipped. Over and above the aforementioned features, the K4 also comes fitted with power windows, central locking, foldable rear seats, wheel caps, day-night inside rear view mirror and wheel arch claddings.
The K6 variant is the one that we feel will bring Mahindra the numbers. It is expected to come with a 2-DIN audio system with four speakers, remote central locking, electrically adjustable ORVMs, cooled glove box, height adjustable driver’s seat and multiple-drive modes. Cosmetic changes on this variant include piano black interiors, chrome inserts on the front grille, door claddings, and blackened out B-pillar.
The top-end trim of the Mahindra KUV100 will come heavily loaded with features. It will get alloy wheels, puddle lamps on all four doors, DRLs, silver accents on door handles and, most importantly, a start/stop micro hybrid system.
Mahindra will bring in the KUV100 on January 15, 2016 and when it is launched it is expected to be priced between Rs 4 – 6 lakh. With the KUV100, Mahindra is targeting to compete against some hatchbacks like the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, Hyundai Grand i10, and more.
