While the news of Mahindra group venturing into the world of MotoGP in 2011 came out a while ago, the official word from Mahindra only came today morning in Mumbai, where the 7.1 billion srong Mahindra Group officially introduced its MotoGP racing team – Mahindra Racing to the media along with its two rider line-up that will compete in the 125cc class for the 2011 MotoGP season. AlbertoStrazzari, CEO of Engines Engineering, will be heading the project joined by Nicola Casadei who is Mahindra Racing’s Team Manager. Mahindra’s Mufaddal Choonia is handling the role of a Team Principal.
Engines Engineering is an Italian firm that specializes in developing motorcycles and it has been actively involved in the sport of MotoGP since 2003 developing race bikes for several teams and manufacturers. The Mahindra team officials confirmed during the launch that an all-new race-machine is ready for the upcoming tests to be held in February where the two riders will get their first taste of the new Mahindra racebike. With a strong backing from an automotive giant like Mahindra, there is certainly a strong sense of conviction and zest that was found in the Mahindra Racing team.

The two riders chosen by the team includes 19-year old Danny Webb who has shown consistent performance throughout his debut in MotoGP since he was 15 and this will be his fifth full season in the 125cc class of MotoGP. Joining him is the 18-year old Marcel Schrotter from Germany who has the German as well as European championships to his credits. The Mahindra team’s race-bike was missing from action and we will have to wait till the official tests commence in the first week of February 2011, in order to catch the first glimpse of the India team’s race-machine. We wish all the very best to Mahindra Racing team on behalf of ZigWheels and all its readers.
