The Mahindra Scorpio facelift mules have been spotted regularly doing the rounds of testing and as we get closer to the launch, Mahindra seems to have ramped up its testing schedules in an attempt to iron out any bugs from this highly anticipated SUV. The Scorpio, now over a decade old has gone though a few distinct facelifts in its lifetimes, the upcoming being the fourth.
Immediately, one can make out a slightly edgier design overall as compared to the current car. The XUV’s edgy design seems to have filtered down to the Scorpio as we expect the new grille to more pronounced and chunky than ever before.
The headlights and taillights too will get a thorough makeover. A dual pod headlight with LED daytime running lights and a projector setup is expected in the headlights wheras the tail lights look like they will get the LED treatment as well. One can also expect a whole new set of interiors inspired from the XUV to do duty in the new Scorpio.
The new facelifted Mahindra Scorpio will receive the same CRDe 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine making 122PS and 290Nm of torque. There will also be a base model offered with a CRDe 2.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine that will produce 76PS and 200Nm of torque aimed mainly at the likes of fleet and taxi operators. The new facelifted Scorpio will retain the same ‘NGT530R’ 5-speed manual transmission and will be offered with both two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive.
Considering the fact that the Mahindra Scorpio outsold both the Ford Ecosport and the Renault Duster, the Scorpio selling 50,900 units as compared to the Ford’s 45,000 and the Renault’s 46,700 units, expect the new facelifted version to do exceedingly well too. We expect the facelifted Scorpio to be priced between Rs 8-12.5 lakhs (ex-showroom).
