Mahindra Reva, the Mumbai-based utility vehicle manufacturer has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the government of Bhutan, to promote the usage of electric vehicles in their country.

On this occasion, Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicles Private Limited announced the launch of its all-electric, zero-emission ‘Mahindra e2o’ in Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan.

The Mahindra e20 will be available in three variants in Bhutan. All the three variants will be priced in terms of the Ngultrum (Bhutanese currency which is equivalent to the Indian rupee). The e20s base variant will be priced approximately at 6.99 Ngultrum (ex-showroom Bhutan); the premium variant will have a price tag of 7.99 Ngultrum (ex-showroom Bhutan) and the premium variant with Quick2Charge will be priced around at 8.39 Ngultrum (ex-showroom Bhutan).

The MoU was signed by Tshering Tobgay, Prime Minister of Bhutan, and Pawan Goenka, Executive Director and President, Automotive and Farm Equipment Sectors, Mahindra & Mahindra and Chairman, Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicles.

The government of Bhutan has agreed to provide infrastructure required for the use of Mahindra's electric vehicles by signing this MoU. The company is also planning to launch other models in Bhutan apart from their e20 in the near future. These models include the Verito Electric, which it plans to market as zero-emission taxis.

The lacklustre attitude of the Indian government towards electric vehicles can be seen as a cause which prompted Mahindra Reva to search for markets in the neighbouring countries.
