The leading SUV manufacturer in India, Mahindra and Mahindra, will be launching the fully electric version of its only sedan, the Verito, on June 2. The car is badged as the e-Verito and will finally see daylight after its launch has been delayed on multiple instances over a period of two years. The car was first showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo, but it was also showcased at this year’s Auto Expo. No doubt that Mahindra has integrated the electric expertise from its subsidiary Reva.
The car will run on a 72V electric motor which produces 41PS of power and an instantaneous torque of 91Nm. With these figures the company promises a top speed of 86kmph for the e-Verito. Moreover, Mahindra has also claimed a mileage of 100km on a full charge of battery. That said, the charging time for a full charge is a hefty 8 hours, which could detract many from buying the e-Verito. People who drive more than 100 kilometres daily will find it difficult to put the e-Verito on charge intermittently.
With that in mind, Mahindra is providing a faster charging mode for the top end D6 trim which brings the charging time down to six and a half hour. Other than the D6 trim, there are two more trims on offer, namely the D2 and D4.
Aesthetically, the car remains same on the exterior, except for the minor nips and tucks on the front and the badgings on the rear. The interiors, on the other hand, could see a considerable amount of change.
To cope with the drag that normal tyres produce, Mahindra has fitted the e-Verito with low rolling resistance tyres. Speaking of the price, the e-Verito could be pegged somewhere around Rs 7-8 lakh, and will benefit from the government schemes available on electric cars.
