After launching the Mercedes-Benz S-Guard last year, Mercedes has taken vehicle protection up a notch by launching the ultra-luxurious Mercedes-Maybach S600 Guard today at Rs 10.5 crore ex-showroom Delhi

Last year Mercedes-Benz introduced the world’s safest civilian vehicle, the S-Guard in India. The car boasted of VR9 ballistic protection. But today, the German car maker has outdone itself by launching the VR10 certified Mercedes-Maybach S600 Guard in India. The prices for the car start at Rs 10.5 crore. For starters, the Maybach can withstand constant fire of hardened steel bullets from assault rifles and probably packs more armour than a Panzer tank. Merc says they’ve used special steels and ‘other materials’ in the basic structure as well as the bodywork of the car. Armour plating is placed in layers especially at joints between two panels to further increase protection. The windows though are fixed but are coated with splinter resistant polycarbonate to prevent shattering.

The underbelly of the car too features a thick armour plating which is capable enough to withstand explosions from grenades as well as the more powerful IEDs. It can also withstand the explosion from 15kg of TNT from just 4 meters away. Needless to say it comes with its own oxygen supply and can sever the outside air supply completely if required (but is an optional extra). The Michelin tyres come with steel rings to ensure they don’t come off in a flat and can take a few shots from guns themselves.

The powertrain though is the same 6.0-litre V12 from the S-guard which makes 530PS of max power and 830Nm of peak torque. It can tackle 100kmph in under eight seconds and the top speed has been electronically limited to 190kmph. The AIRMATIC suspension has been considerably beefed up to not only cope with the added weight of the behemoth which is more than the S-guard (4.5 tonnes) but also provide a pliant ride to its occupants.

Mercedes-Benz will also be conducting extensive background checks before selling the S600 Guard to prevent this luxurious tank from falling into the wrong hands.
