Mirka, a Finnish MNC that deals in abrasives, has recently showcased its new dust-free sanding system called ‘OSP’ (Optimised Surface Preparation). In order to emphasise on the ‘dust free’ part Mirka demonstrated a live sanding exercise carried out by their Global Product Manager Automotive Refinish Trade, Ulf-Peter Astrand, inside a conference room at the Lalit hotel in New Delhi.
Designed to provide a completely dust-free sanding process and significantly reduce repair time as well as costs the Mirka OSP system looks at providing a healthier, cleaner, easier and faster solution for automotive dent repair. Mirka has already approached some of the leading car makers in the country with their new offering and have met with some positive responses as the system can improve the workshop’s business profitability while increasing customer satisfaction by turning around a vehicle sent in for repair much faster than conventional sanding methods.
Launched at the 2013 Automechanica trade fair in Frankfurt, the OSP system is slowly being rolled out across the Globe, with India being the second country after Mexico to have a full-fledged release for the new OSP system.
The OSP system in essence uses an orbital sander along with an industrial vacuum unit that are mounted on a trolley to shrink the repair area by 20 per cent compared with repair techniques currently in use and provides mobility. The sander is complimented by four different abrasive pads that are to be used in sequence to sand a pre applied area in order to get the best finish in the quickest time. The OSP system also allows repair of smaller paint surface due to greater accuracy of the sanding system.
Mirka is looking at gathering demand for its new dust free OSP sanding process from high volume body workshops in the country as the system will return best yields when used optimally.
