First showcased in concept form, the Renault Kwid turned a lot of heads at the 2014 Auto Expo. While Renault had already revealed the Kwid a few months back at their factory in Chennai, we only got a short glimpse of the car. While we’ve already seen the car and know what it looks like, we bring you some noteworthy details about the new Renault Kwid. Here’s what we noted.
.) Design Elements: Renault has been smart in ensuring that the Kwid looks like no other car in its class. The tall design with the honeycomb grille up front flaunting the big Renault logo makes it look premium. Weirdly, the side cladding isn’t plastic, but just a vinyl. It sits 180mm above the ground which is among the best in class. The boot design looks clean and doesn’t flaunt any badges of the variant. Renault has placed them on the C-pillar instead.
.) Interior and Space: There is ample of space on the inside of the Renault Kwid. Leg room even at the back is decent. There are plenty of stowage spaces with bottle holders on the front doors. In fact, the top of the dashboard also has a glove compartment which is big enough to hold a 1 litre bottle of water. Moving on to the back, while the Kwid has quite a big boot and for those looking for more space the rear seats even fold flat.
.) Quality: For a car that is expected to range between Rs 3-5 lakh the Reanult Kwid has fairly decent plastic quality on the dashboard. However, it’s the smaller bits like the doors and the AC vents that don’t match the dash in terms of quality.
.) Cost cutting: Needless to say to keep the cost of the car in check, Renault has made some compromises. The Kwid only gets a single wiper; the six-spoke wheel cap is fitted on with just three lug nuts, the door handles look old school and aren’t body colour and most importantly it gets 13-inch tyres.
.) Features: For a car at its price, the Kwid is expected to come loaded with features. It gets a all-digital instrument cluster, a touch screen infotainment system with AUX and USB connectivity, power windows for the front two passengers, central locking and more. We’ll get the exact feature list and the variant-wise information when the car is launched in September.
