Volkswagen India has indicated on its Facebook page that the price of Ameo could be announced this upcoming Sunday, that is June 5. The German car giant has initiated a price guessing game for the fans via a GIF image in which one has to pause a rolling dial with numbers starting from Rs 5 lakh. Volkswagen has also declared that the first five persons to guess the closest base model’s price will be rewarded.

If we were to guess the price, we would bet on a figure of around Rs 5.70 lakh. The reason being that the price of its younger sibling is around Rs 5.34 lakh (ex-showroom, New-Delhi) and the Ameo could start at a few grands above the Polo’s price.

Speaking of the Ameo, it is the first ever compact sedan (sub-4 metre) that VW has produced in India. The Ameo carries the same visual appeal as the Polo, except for the stubby boot, though the rear quite bluntly ends in the tail, making the design appear incomplete, similar to the Swift Dzire. Speaking of which, other than the Dzire, the Ameo will lock horns with the likes of Hyundai Xcent, Tata Zest, Ford Figo Aspire, and Honda Amaze.

The Ameo will inherit the interiors from the Polo, but with a black and beige color scheme. Other important highlights include the MirrorLink infotainment system, a flat-bottomed steering wheel and the premium fit and finish of VW.

Power will come from the 1.2-litre petrol motor and the 1.5-litre diesel motor as found in the Polo. Both the engines will be mated to a standard 5-speed manual transmission, with an optional automatic gearbox available with the diesel mill. The Ameo will miss out on the 1.2-litre TSI motor that powers the Polo GT TSI.

The car will be offered in three variants, namely the Trendline (base), the Comfortline (mid), and Highline (top). All of these will be getting dual airbags and ABS as standard. Do check out our first drive review of the all-new Ameo.
