Yamaha MT-25 launched in Indonesia

Yamaha has introduced the new MT-25 naked motorcycle in the Indonesian two-wheeler market. The Yamaha MT-25 is the naked version of the Yamaha R25 that was launched in the Indonesian market last year. The styling of the Yamaha MT-25 is akin to street bikes with a beefy tank, petite tail lamp, and exposed frame along with sharp and edgy lines that should please the naked bike loyalists. Apart from the design changes, Yamaha boffins have also fine tuned the riding position to better suit to the street bike riding dynamics. The Yamaha MT-25 has dumped the clip-on bars for a more conventional single piece and wide handlebar that will endow the rider with an upright and comfortable riding stance.  Despite the lack of fairing, the new Yamaha MT-25 is just a kg lighter than the R25 which tips the scale at 169kg.

Providing firepower is the same 249cc, parallel-twin, 8-valve, liquid-cooled motor as seen on the R25 that pumps out 36PS of peak power and 22.5Nm of max torque. Power is transmitted via a 6-speed constant mesh gearbox. The Yamaha MT-25 will carry forward the diamond type frame, suspension setup and brakes from the R25. In the Indian context, Yamaha has garnered fair bit of success with the FZ range of naked bike series and the Yamaha MT-25 could be slotted above it as their premium street bike motorcycle in the Indian market. If the Japanese two-wheeler giant does plan to bring the Yamaha MT-25 to India then it would be via the CKD route. The Yamaha MT-25 might be priced around Rs 2.5 lakh in our market and will compete against twin-cylinder rivals like the Kawasaki Z250 and the Benelli TNT 300. Watch this space for more updates.
