Bajaj Auto, India’s second largest two-wheeler manufacturer, has launched the Discover 100T (T for tourer), the most technically advanced 100cc bike in the Indian market. It is powered by a 100cc engine which, mated to a 5-speed transmission, produces 10.2PS @ 9,000rpm, which is 30 per cent more than any bike in this segment, and torque of 9.2Nm @ 6,500rpm. The first 100c bike in the world to feature the 4-valve DTS-I technology patented by Bajaj Auto). Bajaj claims the 100T will return an impressive 87kmpl. Features like electric start, auto choke and DC headlamps are standard. The bike looks similar to its elder sibling the Discover 125ST but instead of a rear mono-shock suspension, the 100T is equipped with gas-filled Nitrox shocks and will be available in four colours, flame red, brilliant blue, black red and black blue. Bajaj has priced the premium 100cc motorcycle at Rs 50,500 (ex-showroom Delhi).
K Srinivas, president (Motorcycle business), Bajaj Auto said, "For too long, the average commuter had to be satisfied with boring and undifferentiated 100cc bikes. While 100cc bikes do offer good mileage, their style, features and performance leave a lot to be desired. The steady growth of the more expensive 100cc bikes at the cost of the cheaper models is a clear evidence of this.”
The Bajaj Discover 100T will take on the Hero MotoCorp Splendor and Honda Dream Yuga. Bajaj currently has a 20 per cent share in the mass market category and aims to increase it by 10 per cent with the Discover 100T, with monthly sales of around 45,000 units.
