Porsche Macan - JUNE
The Porsche Macan will undoubtedly end up becoming Porsche’s best selling car in India. The Macan will initially be offered with a diesel version and the top of the line turbo version with pricing ranging from Rs 90 lakh – Rs 1 Crore. We also expect Porsche to launch the smaller 2.0-litre petrol engine soon after with prices between Rs 75-80 lakh. The Porsche Macan will go up against the likes of the Range Rover Evoque when launched in June. Expect long waiting periods for the Macan since Porsche will only allot a very limited number of cars for India.
Audi A3 – JULY
The Audi A3, an entry level sedan from the Ingolstadt based manufacturer is sure to create ripples when it launches in a few months from now. With expected prices are slated to be around the Rs 20 lakh mark, the Audi A3 is aimed at the younger, first time luxury car buyer. With 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines expected to power the A3 and a host of variants including a top-of-the-line one with LED headlamps, the Audi A3 might just about help Audi keep its number one spot in the Indian luxury car market.
Tata Bolt/Zest – JULY
With the Tata Bolt/Zest duo resurrect the dormant giant? We think it will. The Bolt, a completely facelifted version of the Tata Vista, and the Zest, a new sub 4-meter sedan based on the Manza due for launch in July, there are quite a few people waiting to see these new generation Tatas firsthand. The old 1.3-litre diesel (available with 75PS or 90PS) will get a new running mate in form of a 1.2-litre, turbocharged petrol engine producing peak power of 85PS.
The Bolt and Zest will come jammed pack with tech like a double-din touch screen infotainment system with inbuilt Bluetooth, navigation and other function. The Zest will also get added accessories like daytime running lights, 15-inch wheels and possibly a start/stop button. We expect the Bolt to be priced between Rs 5-6.5 lakh and the Zest between 5.5-7 lakh (ex-showroom) when they are officially launched in July.
Honda Mobilio – JULY
The Honda Mobilio is Honda’s long awaited entry into the MUV or passenger carrier segment. The Mobilio, based on the same platform that the Brio and Amaze will get the same petrol and diesel engines as its siblings. The Mobilio will offer seating for seven people in relative comfort and will be priced between Rs 6-9 lakh depending on the variant. The Honda Mobilio will go up against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, the Datsun Go+ and Mahindra Quanto and is expected to be launched in the second week of July.
Maruti Swift Facelift- AUGUST
The Maruti Suzuki Swift, a crowd favourite in our country is due to get a mid=life facelift. Expect a range of new colors, a new interior spec and added goodies like a new infotainment setup to come as standard. Just as the Volkswagen Polo, the Suzuki Swift facelift will also get a start/stop button and a satellite navigation package. The new Suzuki Swift will also feature daytime running lights, smoked headlamps and a new set of tail lights. We can also expect a slightly redone front bumper and a sportier grille as compared to the one available on the Swift today.
Mercedes-Benz GLA Class – SEPTEMBER
The Mercedes-Benz GLA is possibly the most important car for Mercedes India for not just 2014 but for the foreseeable future. The compact luxury SUV segment, one of the hottest growing segments globally and in the country and with the BMW X1 and Audi Q3’s success in the past, the Mercedes-Benz GLA is a sure shot winner. The GLA will get both petrol and diesel engines producing 156PS and 136PS respectively. Mercedes-Benz dealers in India have already started taking pre-booking tokens for the GLA and are expecting an official price announcement in the first half of September.
Volkswagen Polo Facelift – OCTOBER
The new facelifted Volkswagen Polo has already been spotted by a few keen eyed enthusiasts in India doing the test rounds around VW’s plant in Chakan. The new facelift will feature new headlamps, new tail lamps, new bumpers and a different interior. Also expect a few new engine packages coupled with both manual and automatic gearboxes. The new VW Polo facelift will be priced marginally higher than the current version and should be available in festive period to try and maximise sales. The new Polo should also get goodies like a start/stop button, satellite navigation and a touch screen infotainment package.
Datsun Go+ - NOVEMBER
The Datsun Go+ will be Datsun’s second launch this year after the fun to drive Go hatchback. The Go+, just like the Honda Mobilio will have seating for seven people and from what we have seen at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo, is quite spacious and comfortable. The Datsun Go+ is expected to get the 1.5-litre diesel and petrol mill from the Nissan Sunny and will go on sale in November. We expect the Datsun Go+ to be a fantastic value for money proposition with pricing expected to be between Rs 5-6 lakh. The Datsun Go+ should see quite a few people shifting from conventional sedans to MUVs due to its affordable price and frugal diesel engine.
Skoda Rapid Diesel Automatic (DSG) - NOVEMBER
Although not a new car or even a facelift, the Skoda Rapid features on this list for one simple reason. When launched, it will be the cheapest diesel car with an automatic transmission in the country. The Skoda Rapid DSG will come with a 6-speed dual clutch gearbox and will be offered as the top of the line model in the Rapid range. Expect prices to be around the Rs 10 lakh mark. With the Rapid’s already good dynamics, engine and interior trim, an automatic version with the diesel engine will go a long way to boost both sales and appeal.
New Fiat Punto – DECEMBER
The New Fiat Punto has been seen doing the test rounds extensively and is expected to be launched in India in December this year. The new Punto will feature styling cues from the Fiat Avventura that was unvieled at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo. The new Punto will have the same interior as the Fiat Linea and the same 1.3-litre diesel engine as before. There will also be a 1.2-litre and 1.4-litre petrol engine option. The new Punto is expected to be priced slightly higher and sold alongside the current generation Punto
