The Audi A3 sedan is one of our favourite entry-level luxury cars. Now though, with Audi dropping the roof and adding a million miles of open skies, the A3 gets even more added drama. The Audi A3 cabriolet will be a 4-seater convertible and will come with a conventional soft top instead of a complex metal folding roof in order to keep the weight down to a minimum. The roof itself opens and closes in under 18-seconds while driving at speeds up to 50kmph
The A3 Cabriolet is lighter than the previous generation model due to extensive use of ultra-high-strength steel and generous usage of aluminium. The lightweight construction is also set to extend to the design of the engine and chassis. The engine, a 1.8-litre, turbocharged, 4-cylinder petrol produces 180PS of peak power and 350Nm of peak torque. There might also be a 2.0-litre 35TDI engine like the one in the sedan.
The Audi A3 cabriolet will also get the same interior that is available on the sedan with a pop up infotainment screen for the Audi MMI and the Bang and Olufsen sound system. The interior will also get a built in wind deflector and neck warmers for the front passengers. On the safety front, the A3 will get active roll over protection along with standard features like ESP, traction control and of course, ABS and airbags. Expect the Audi A3 cabriolet to be priced at about Rs 45-50 lakhs and will be available as a CBU in India.
