Maruti Ciaz launch on October 6

Maruti will launch the Ciaz on October 6. The Ciaz will take on the Honda City and Hyundai Verna in the C-segment and is expected to undercut its rivals on the pricing front. Maruti’s latest offering replaces the SX4 and this time around is a more premium product that as we have found out could be a serious threat for its competition.

The Ciaz comes with a choice of petrol and diesel engines borrowed from the Ertiga. The petrol engine develops 92PS/130Nm from the 1.4-litre K-series engine. Maruti has remapped the ECU for better performance, efficiency and drivability. The mainstay will be the 1.3-litre Fiat sourced Multijet diesel that’s good for 90PS/200Nm. Both engines come mated to 5-speed manual gearboxes. The petrol also gets an automatic but details of this gearbox aren’t out yet.

Maruti Ciaz interior

Learning from the SX4’s failure, Maruti has consciously given the Ciaz a much more upmarket styling and kitted it with all the features that its class of car demands. So you get a spacious cabin with good quality interior, a touchscreen system with sat-nav. The screen also doubles up as a display for the reverse parking camera. There’s also leather seats, climate control, push button start/stop, pretty much everything you’d expect in this class of car. The Maruti Ciaz also gets projector headlamps and large smartly styled 16 inch alloy wheels.

The Petrol and diesel manuals will be available in four trims each – Vxi/VDi, VXi+/VDi+, ZXi/ZDi, ZXi+/ZDi+ while the petrol automatic should be available in VXi+ and ZXi+ trims. As far as efficiency goes, the Ciaz petrol returns an ARAI certified efficiency figure of 20.73kmpl and the diesel returns 26.21kmpl, the latter is on paper the most fuel efficient car in the country.
