Renault India is all set to update the slow selling Pulse hatchback. The company informs us that the Pulse will get a facelift this week in order to boost sales. Stories about discontinuation of the Pulse hatchback and Scala sedan are misconstrued adds the French carmaker.
The Scala and Pulse are weak performers for Renault since a while. Production as a result is done in batches and that means the company halts production from time to time till the produced stock clears up. Till the end of the year, 1,447 units of the Pulse and 806 units of the Scala have been produced. During the same period, Renault sold 1,646 units of the Pulse and 1,103 units of the Scala. Sales have more than halved to the corresponding period in 2013-14 for the Pulse and have dropped a fourth for the Scala.
The Pulse and the Scala are badge engineered cousins of the Micra and Sunny. Both Nissans have received a facelift in the past year and now it is time for the Renaults to get an update. With the Pulse facelift due any time soon, the Scala update should follow. To boost sales in the interim, Renault has been offering heavy discounts on the Pulse and Scala. The diesel variants for instance were being offered at the price of a similarly equipped petrol variant.
Renault India is also planning to launch the Lodgy MPV next month marking the next phase of new products from the carmaker after its initial plan of five products since it set foot in India.
