Roshun the i20 N-Sport uses that same 1.4-litre petrol engine which was available in the last-gen i20. It's not turbocharged, but Hyundai has tuned the engine to deliver more power, 114bhp to be precise. It's a shame Hyundai is only concerned about numbers and not what the enthusiast wants. This car, if launched, would have been a worthy competitor to the Fiat Punto Abarth.

As Roshun said, Hyundai doesn't believe in performance products, specially for India currently. But I think it could. This car would definitely do more than a few 100 units a month, considering the image and market Hyundai has. Cracker of an engine though. It's naturally aspirated but the dual VVT would make it produce that kind of power higher in the rev range. Surprise is the 160NM of tourque, from a 1.4 NA engine.

Unfortunately Hyundai India does not believe in focussing on niche performance products. It is volume or bust. How else can you explain Hyundai axing the 1.4 Asta variant of the previous gen i20 here? That 1.4 naturally aspirated engine made just 90PS and had a 4 speed automatic. Is the N-Sport a turbo petrol? Does not seem so as the torque figure is not that high compared to the Punto Abarth and Polo GT TSi. For a naturally aspirated 14 petrol car, it is mighty fast if the claimed 8.9 figure is true. Price may seem affordable, but Hyundai is in tje volumes game. It won't make a product that may sell only a few 100 units a month.
