MotoMax Royal Enfield Continental GT Turbo: Australia-based motorcycle trader/ bike builder MotoMax has turbo'ed the bike that needs to be turbo'ed- the Continental GT. I always thought turbocharging a single cylinder engine is extremely complicated because of the intermittent power pulses, general engine integrity (Especially RE engines which are not exactly performance-based ones) and complex intake and exhaust systems. But somehow defying all the engineering odds, MotoMax has actually done it! Here are the pictures: The turbo runs at 7psi and for the mechanically inclined, the bike makes 42 horsepower at the rear wheel and the torque is apparently nearly doubled than the stock figure. So I think that must be around 70+ Nm! The inlet pipe and the exhaust pipes look like they're head-wrapped. Now, I'm not sure how it will handle the heat especially because this bike doesn't seem to have an intercooler. Engineering realism aside, the bike's modifications have been tastefully done. The minimalistic bullet-shaped indicators, leather tank strap, blackened lower section of the chassis- they all exude the characteristic vintage charm. That flat, ribbed seat reminds me of the Bonneville. The tank adorns a beautiful three-dimensional brass badge etched with RE's old logo. On doing some research on returnofthecaferacers.com, I learnt that the bike's intake duties are done by a Power Commander V Fuel Injection module which constantly makes adjustments for optimised combustion. The turbo shaft is lubricated by a braided oil piping taken from the oil filter. Oh, and I love that beautiful GT cut-out on the chain cover as it adds to the authenticity. Overall, this is a really interesting mod job and I'd love to test-ride this one! Speaking of desires, the bike is available for sale (in limited numbers, I presume) and you just need to contact them at atsales@motomax.com.au. What do you guys think?
