Called the Polo Select and Vento Celeste, both cars come with new cosmetic changes and features. Both the models will be available in limited numbers across VW dealerships in India. Based on the ‘Highline’ trim, expect both the cars to cost about Rs 50,000 to Rs 60,000 above the respective top of the line models. Customers who have already booked a Polo Highline or a Vento Highline can upgrade to the special editions at a nominal cost, the company said at the time of launch. So what’s new on these special editions The special edition models come with some really smart bits like a blackened roof, carbon-finish ORVM covers, and a very subtle body side moulding finished in black. VW is also offering the option of adding a chrome trunk garnish on the Polo Select and a trunk spoiler on the Vento Celeste. On the inside, you now get a high-quality, scratch resistant dashboard with a premium carbon finish for the centre console. In addition to the regular features you get on the Highline trim of the Polo, VW has added 4 new scuff plates along with seat covers featuring the ‘VW’ logo. The Vento Celeste gets a new touchscreen infotainment system from Balupunkt radio and navigation. VW is also giving the Vento Celeste a mulit-function steering wheel with controls for audio and Bluetooth. In addition to all the above mentioned features, both cars also come with detachable window blinds and new textile mats. Both the Polo Select and the Vento Celeste continue to be powered by the same set of engines as in the standard cars. The Polo Select gets he 1.2-litre MPI motor that puts out 74bhp and a 1.5-litre diesel engine that develops 89bhp. Both are mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. The Vento Celeste on the other hand can be had with wither a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated petrol that puts out 104bhp or a 1.2-litre turbo petrol that develops 103bhp. The diesel Vento gets the same 1.5-litre engine as the Polo but makes more power at 103bhp. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed DSG unit. Now for my rant. Volkswagen, I’ve had enough with your special editions that no longer feel as special since there are a gazillion Polos and Ventos on our roads. What I want is for you to bring this hot version to the country as a special edition and not some stupid sticking job with new textile mats. Please Volkswagen, listen to my plea and make my wish come true!
