In 2009, BMW’s flagship litre-class motorcycle the S1000RR was launched. It won the hearts of auto journalists all over the world and has been the benchmark in the segment ever since. True that the oddball looks weren’t to everyones liking, but with time it has aged gracefully. Now - six years later - it steps up to the very same challenge. The S 1000 RR model year 2015 has been completely revised: BMW Motorrad engineers have entirely reconceived the bike's technology, design and fittings. The result: in its origins a genuine Double R, on the road a new supersports machine. But the S1000RR, with its distinct headlamps and shark gills on the fairing made it stand out from the rather bland litre-class bikes from Japanese manufacturers. The design of the S1000RR follows function rather than form and it is very evident when one rides. From the front-section to the rear, every panel and component has been redesigned. The headlamp units now look a lot more seamless but i still prefer the first-gem versions design better. But nonetheless, the BMW S1000RR is one of the best looking bikes on the planet and there’s no denying that. For the 2015 model, BMW has managed to increase output from its 999cc in-line four-cylinder motor. Power figure now stands at 199bhp - an increase of 6bhp over its predecessor. The Bavarians have even managed to reduce the weight by 4kg (204kg kerb weight). BMW has even updated most of the electronic suspension components enabling greater traction and better feedback. Shift Assist Pro helps the rider shift the cogs up or down without pulling the clutch lever and should help in shaving off precious seconds on track. To control all these settings, the S1000RR gets a new instrument cluster which can be adapted to different riding modes. With all these updates, you can bet the S1000RR to be the benchmark super bike for years to come.
