Q.Iconic Land Rover Defender To Make A Comeback!

With Jeep Wrangler all set to hit the Indian market this year, the new Defender will be late to the party! I hope they assemble them in India, or maybe make in India? Come on Tata! I always loved the Bronco from the 1990's. It reminds me of good old days of off-roading in GTA San Andreas. The Bronco looks proper Texan. [SIZE=14px]When Jaguar Land Rover announced that it would stop producing the iconic Defender in January, the whole world went into mourning. But there is hope. Remember the Land Rover DC100 and Land Rover DC100 Sport Defender Concept from 2011? Many said that these concepts were a preview to what was to come from Land Rover - a brand new Defender. Thoroughly modern yet retaining its tough, go-anywhere looks. Could this, in fact, be the next Defender? [ATTACH=CONFIG]n11983[/ATTACH][/SIZE] [SIZE=14px]Well, Avarvarii Future Cars Illustrations has just released speculative renderings of the next-generation Defender and boy does it look good. The rendering has borrowed a lot of design cues from the earlier concepts but it does get an all-new face now. Up front, the high-set bonnet remains, but has changed is the headlamps and grille. The headlamps are round units but the bonnet lid covers a little bit of the top half of the lamps giving it a mean looking set of eyes. The slatted grille is finished in matte black. The bumpers are finished in black and there is even a winch but into it. From the side, the rendered Defender looks like the older car with flat surfaces and a strong shoulder line. The rendered version also get oh-so-cool steel wheels finished in the same shade as the body. Staying true to the original concept, theAvarvarii Defender too gets a white roof. The design of the Defender’s derriere is probably what hasn't changed much from the concept. The spare wheel is mounted on the tailgate and tail lamps are where it should be. So nothing much there. The next-generation Defender is likely to be available with five body styles. Well, nobody has any details on it as of now. The last-generation Defender was the last Land Rover to use a ladder frame chassis. All other Land Rover’s use an aluminium monocoque chassis now. But if Land Rover are serious about the Defender, I expect them to continue the ladder frame set up for the new Defender as well. Especially since Jeep, Land Rover’s primary rival, has confirmed that the next-generation Wrangler would continue to use a ladder frame chassis. Expect the next-generation to be come with the option two wheelbases as before. Publications abroad say a near-production version of the Defender is likely to be unveiled in 2018. The good news though is that Land Rover may launch the Defender as a global product now.
