Q.New Hyundai Elantra Slated for a September Launch

Sources reveal the Hyundai Elantra will offer both petrol and diesel engine options spread across five variants: S, SX, SX AT, SX(O), SX(O) AT. The petrol variant will pack a 2.0L MPI four cylinder engine producing 152 PS and 190 Nm, while the diesel variant is powered by a 1.6 CRDi engine with 128 PS and 265 Nm of torque.

The petrol power plant would output 147 Hp of power not 156 HP from 2.0 litre heart.

Hyundai will officially launch the new generation of their D-segment offering, the Elantra, on August 23. The Elantra is expected to carry forward the existing 1.6-litre diesel engine, that currently produces 128PS of power. A 2.0 litre petrol variant which produces 156PS is also likely to be introduced.

Hyundai dealers have already started taking bookings for the upcoming Elantra. As it is expected to launch in early september, you can book one now for Rs.25,000

The new Hyundai Elantra will replace the existing car in the same price bracket, that is Rs. 14 lakh to Rs. 18 lakh. This is a market that is not really growing though and has remained stagnant for sometime - the market for premium midsize sedans that is. At one point it was dominated by the Honda Civic and then the Corolla Altis. But now that whole segment put together does not sell more cars than any of the SUV players in that price bracket. The interiors look good though. I'm glad Hyundai is planing on going ahead with an all-black interior instead of the usual beige. Thedashboard desing may seem bland to some but it looks very functional to me. It looks like there is ample space for the rear seat passengers as well. Like [USER="18"]MotuSid[/USER] said, the press shots do make the car look weird especially the front and the front three quarter. Waiting to see one in the flesh to make up my mind on the design. I hope it looks better than in the pictures.

The last photo, that is Sector-29 isn't it? Anyway, I'm not a big fan of how the new Elantra looks from the front and the front three-quarter. Maybe its because of the way the press photos were taken - the car looks very rear-heavy. The nose is too short and the headlights are too slim - followed by what looks like a bloated body. Rear three quarter is fab!

[USER="21"]JijoMalayil[/USER] the new Elantra sure looks good. Hyundai's Fluidic Design did wonders for the Verna and the last-gen Elantra and I'm sure it will do the same for the new one as well. This will definitely sell in huge numbers considering the size of Hyundai after-sales network, a problem that still plagues the Octavia. This new Elantra will definitely outsell the Toyota Corolla Altis but the Octavia is definitely a better product compared to these two. The MQB platform has proved itself to be quite versatile and sturdy as well. If Hyundai undercuts the Octavia's pricing, which they are likely to do, then they are on to a winner. As far as the design of the interior is concerned, I like the functional design. I hated the last-gen Elantra's dashboard design with the very tiny AC vents. The placement of the touchscreen in the new car seems perfect as it is in the driver's line of sight. If it was placed any lower, then it would have been distracting.

The Hyundai Elantra is a fairly popular car among the D-segment sedans in India. This will be the third-generation of the Elantra to hit our market.
