The Akula has been recently spotted in Karnataka, sporting a camouflage. The bike was apparently spotted testing near Bangalore- Hosur highway. The cluster seems to be in a 'portrait' format, staying true to what was displayed in the concept. It reminds me of KTM Duke's cluster and I think these are the only two bikes I've seen have a portrait-based cluster. And I'm not sure how efficient it is to display information, especially when the rider glances it split-second. I feel landscape clusters are more easily readable than this one, especially the tacho read-out because there's more space to distribute the readings. What do you guys think? [ATTACH=CONFIG]n22867[/ATTACH] The fuel tank seems to be large and muscular. But I doubt it can carry more fuel than the G 310 R owing to weight reductions, considering this is a track bike. But who knows, it might as well be marketed as a sport tourer! The seats are split units, a la Yamaha R15 and going by the looks of it, I think the pillion comfort will be similar to R15's. Also notice all the front panels (surrounding the instrument cluster) are all closed and is flush with the side fairing, giving the bike a proper 'big-bike' feel. Picture courtesy: xBhp

Another spy picture of the TVS Akula has surfaced on the internet. This time we get a glimpse of how the rear looks and my god, I have never seen such a sweet rear! It looks like a scorpion's claws! The lights are LEDs and so are the Indicators. Looks like the exhaust has been carried over from the BMW G 310 R. The high tail-section hints at Akula's race-ready attitude and the fat rear tyre also looks the part. But expect the final production version to have the ugly rear tyre hugger and a saree guard. The Akula will be launched in India by February or March next year, according to a statement given by TVS' CFO S.G. Murali. The Akula shares the same underpinning as the G310 R and will probably be named as Apache RTR 300. The engine is expected to be tuned to stay true to TVS' racing genes. If it is priced below INR 2 lakhs, I think it can easily compete with the RC 200. Pricing it more than two lakhs will push it towards the 390 Duke territory and the upcoming Duke is not only more powerful but is also likely to be equipped with numerous technology to make the power more accessible.

In this segment of bikes, its seems like the manufacturers do not care about the pillion. [USER="166"]themallustig[/USER] True, but when it comes to performance, I think it will compete more with the likes of RC 390 and the R3 rather than RC 200 as the power figures are likely to be on par with other motorcycles in the 300 cc performance segment. Sure, it may not be as powerful as the RC 390, but it may handle equally well on the track, me thinks!

I expect the Akula 300 to be around Rs 1.5 lac and directly rival the KTM RC200 in terms of pricing. BMW G310R will be pitted against the new Duke 390 and be priced above the Rs 2 lac mark. What do you think?

Looks like the quarter litre performance segment is heating up and how! The latest track tool from TVS, the Akula 310 has been recently spotted testing somewhere in the Bangalore- Hosur road. Now, that area has become an interesting place to witness many sightings of TVS' pre-production prototypes, [URL="https://www.zigwheels.com/forum/posts/9310-bmw-g310-r-spotted-in-south-india"]including the BMW G310 R[/URL]. The bike shares most of its mechanical underpinnings with the G 310 R but may be tuned to be more track-oriented. The headlamps looks like projector units but going by the trend started by [URL="https://www.zigwheels.com/forum/posts/8228-bajaj-cs-400-spotted-may-be-launched-mid-2016"]Pulsar CS 400[/URL], it may be even LED's! The mirrors look ugly, but purposeful. I think they will be replaced with more cool-looking ones. The indicators are as usual mounted on the fairings and going by their small size, they may be LEDs. The huge windscreen, low handlebars and the aggressively designed fairing lets you know that this bike is for racing enthusiasts. The chassis is the culmination of technology borrowed from TVS Racing. The design is a radical departure from the RTR series and I hope this bike gets its own identity. Although, word is that the Akula is likely to be renamed as TVS RTR 300 when it goes on sale. We expect the launch to happen in 2017 and I hope it will be launched alongside the G 310 R. The Akula will be TVS' first proper, track-friendly motorcycle and I think TVS has gotten the basics right, at least going by the pictures! What do you guys think?
