Salim If i were you i would have definetly take the diesel despite the ban in Delhi & there is a reason for that 1. Weighing close to 2 tonnes, innova would never gonna be frugal to run. as stated by joy the company itself claims of having single digit mileage figures. So the real world figures would be in 5-6 range only. That kills the idea of having a MUV with a long range. 2. Packing the car with full passengers would be more noticeable in petrol than the diesel. The torque of diesel would help to pull car & the passenger weight. That would not be the case with Petrol. 3. The trust that toyota has made with their cars seems to be indestructable. So maintaining any car with toyota would be an easy affair. Whether its a diesel or a petrol there would not be a huge difference in cost. Also keep in mind the short interval of just 5000 Kms. 4. Toyota has been known to make trustable diesel in the past. U could look out in the history Reliable Qualis 2.4L/ Innova GD series engine, 1.4L are frugal & yet reliable in the long run. So to me its a good chance that u would not regret buying Diesel with Toyota

Salim I am not very optimistic about the petrol Innova. For one, its engine seems mediorce on paper. Power and torque figures are strictly average for a large capacity engine lugging a heavy car. Economy won't be great either. Secondly, the difference in price is just not enough to justify. A lakh rupees here or there makes no difference to a 25L rupee buyer. I would suggest sticking with the diesel here.

My take on the current scenario is this. With the current trends we can clearly see that the demand for diesel powered vehicles is not what it was 2 years ago and this will further increase in the coming years like it or not.The Overall shift is towards cleaner downsized versions of engines even diesel powered. So if you are a member of the now endangered, There is no replacement for displacement group;Buy these models now and enjoy it before they finally bid farewell to bigger engines in the country. The 2.8L of the Crysta is a very potent motor. The Petrol in comparison is a 2.7L[I expect a smooth, linear and silent drive but no push to the back seat action when you need it as this is not a Turbocharged engine] and the car weighs ~1.9 tonnes so the fuel efficiency would be in Single digits(Since ARAI rating is between 9.8-10.8 kmpl for the manual and automatic) and that is the original reason why petrol powered big cars have lower resale value in India even if maintenance is lower than Diesel. The same issue pertains with the crysta but for the places with the NGT ban, there is no option. If your place is not hit by the ban currently.I wouldn't think they can enforce the rule with respect to the Court ruling and So petrol variant shouldn't gain more resale value than diesel. It would at best be low for both on worse case scenario's :D So If you have a thing for big diesel engines, buy it now before its too late ;) .Regards...
