Q.Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, Grand Cherokee Launch and Updates
516 Views Add Comment31 CommentsJijo | 7 years agoJeep has launched the petrol variant of the Wrangler Unlimited in India at Rs 56 lakh. The petrol variant is powered by a 3.6-litre, V6 motor that puts out 285 hp and 353 Nm torque. This motor comes mated with a 5-speed automatic gearbox which is paired with an all-wheel drive system. It is reported that Jeep will launch a petrol variant of Grand Cherokee with the same engine with a 10 hp jump in power, paired with an 8-speed automatic soon.
Roshun | 8 years agoArjun Jeep has been testing the 3-door Wrangler here in India for a while. I spotted the three-door variant two years ago in the Ranjangaon plant, when I had gone there for some other Fiat-related work. I think the decision to go with the five-door Unlimited is more to do with the price tag and customer profile it is looking at. A 3-door at a similar or even slightly lower price tag will not cut it with most buyers at around Rs. 65 lakh. It won't really stand out that much, considering there are many who modify their Thar's to look almost like this. In fact, Azad 4x4 recently came out with a "Trip-X" body kit for the Thar that looks almost exactly like the Wrangler!
Arjun | 8 years agoA 3 door version of the Jeep Wrangler has been spotted at Fiat's Ranjangaon plant near Pune by NDTVs carandbike.com. The Fiat owned Jeep brand has launched the 5 door variant of the Wrangler last month for 71lakhs. However this indicates that we can expect the 3 door version to make its way. The 3 door Wrangler is powered by a 3.6 V6 petrol engine that churns out 281bhp and a peak torque of 352Nm. Looks wise it looks same as the Wrangler 5 door which is an extended version of the 3 door Wrangler. Arjun | 8 years agoUpdate. Jeep India has inaugrated its first dealership in Ahmedabad,Gujarat. They are planning to launch 9 more dealerships by the year end. Within a week of the Jeep launch, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has inaugurated their first showroom in India. The dealership in Ahmedabad, is the first Jeep destination store which will soon be opened in the major cities. The showroom would be retailing the Grand Cherokee, Grand Cherokee SRT and the Wrangler models that were launched recently. The showroom is being operated by Concept Motorcar Pvt. Ltd. Mr Kevin Fynn, President and Managing director for Jeep India, said that they had been getting a lot of interest for the Jeep from the city and that lead them into the decision to start the first dealership in Ahmedabad. The showroom is spread over 7500sqft and is located at the ground floor of Ganesh Meridian, on Sarkhej-Gandhinagar highway. Other than the Jeeps, they would also be selling Jeep branded merchandise and accessories. The workshop will be complemented by a 12000sqft workshop facility at Sanand. In a bid to connect with customers Jeep plans to provide the 'Jeep offroading experience' in order to showcase the capabilities of the vehicles. In terms if warranty, Jeep is offering a 2 year unlimited kms warranty on all the models. The warranty comes with international coverage and is transferable to the second owner. The are also offering 'Jeep Assist' which is a 24x7 road side assistance program, as a part of the warranty coverage. In case of a breakdown journey, Jeep would be providing the customer a Business class return ticket or a hotel accommodation as a part of the programme. There is an option to extend the warranty as well. The upcoming Jeep destination stores would be coming in Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chandigarh,Cochin, and Bengaluru. Praveen | 8 years agoJijoMalayil I wonder how much would the price be for those accessory packs. Considering it is a premium brand, I am expecting an arm and a leg. I checked out the US website and found some interesting build options. More importantly, a lot of those options are actually useful, like tow hook packages, trail rated kits, tyre packages, roof options and the likes.

Ronny | 8 years agoSeeing the pricing it doesn't seem Fiat is serious for India. Though it makes a enthusiast happy but it again has many flaws that even an enthusiast can't overlook. "Launch a much anticipated product with inflated pricing, spoil companies image itself & then wait for customers to be in for any purchase". This has become a trend now in the fiat portfolio. Fiat has, had & would have a brilliant product in the lineup but if the trend remains similar in India than there would be no surprise Fiat would be packing there bags leaving few of there loyal customers drowned.
Kaiserketkar | 8 years ago
NikilSJ I too share the love of FIAT . Be it the Palio 1.6,Linea T jet, Punto 90. every one of them bowled me over when i took a drive. I felt sad for the brand initially but seeing how they treat our market make me angry as well. (They did make an effort with the Abarth Versions, though)
This is a brand that has the dubious distinction of getting [and wasting] 3 shots at the Indian market with solid cars- first with the Uno, then with the Palio/Siena, and finally with the Punto/Linea. Great products let down by the very company that makes them! What do Fiat have to show for their 2 decades in India.... bottom of the manufacturer list with a 0.22 % market share. :(
Ajaycm | 8 years agoRoshun It’s way Too Overpriced, They Killed the much awaited Brand before the Launching itself, So sad for the Jeepers in India. Even you calculate the Duty its Double Prices, Wrangler Unlimited at 71 Lacks, it’s a Joke

What a brilliant move by JLR India. I wish other manufacturers like Hyundai and Maruti poked each other for fun too. The Indian auto scene would have been so bleak if these international brands didn't come wouldn't it!

Jijo | 8 years agoHere is @Roshun's first impressions of the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, Cherokee and Cherokee SRT.
Nikil | 8 years agoJOY MRC hahaha. I just went a little overboard. Also, I am a Fiat owner as well remember? I need them as much as the next guy. But Fiat's lethargy has gone too far now. It's so frustrating. Today MotuSid and I drove to office in Stig-Wannabe's Palio and I was the happiest guy on the planet. That car used to have too many issues, but with a little bit of love and tender care most of them seems to have been fixed now. So many flaws just like an Italian too. That's why I want more new FIAT products on the road. To see them repeat the same mistake again and again.
JOY | 8 years agoNikilSJ Don't be so harsh buddy. We still need spares for the dozen cars they sold ;) don't make them strand the loyal customers.. AGAIN :D
Nikil | 8 years ago
But then again, this is Fiat we're talking about. Maybe we shouldn't have had such expectations from them.
I've given up on them too. They were my favourite mass market car brand after Ford. With the kind of importance (the lack of it really) that Fiat has shown to our country, I feel they don't even deserve to be here anymore. Give us good cars or pack your bags and go home FIAT!
Nikil | 8 years ago
Price difference of a whooping 66 lakhs is a no brainer, buy the Thar and spend a little more, to spruce it up :D .
Hahaha. Exactly what I was thinking too. The Wrangler's price is way above what everyone was expecting it to be. However, how much do you think it'll come down to once Jeep starts assembling them here? JijoMalayil was telling me earlier that his hopes of buying a used Wrangler in another five years have also been dashed now since it won't come anywhere below Rs 20 lakh even on the used car market. The Cherokee SRT is definitely going to be popular among the uber-rich and Bolywood actor. It'll be the right upgrade for them from their Audi Q7s and Merc GLS'. I just hope these Jeeps sell in decent numbers and give FIAT the confidence to roll out some new products here. It's high time that happened.
Praveen | 8 years agoThose who have saved up 30-odd lakh for the Jeep will now probably go buy a Thar and customize it to their heart's content. Hell, they might even buy a brand new Thar and go for the Daybreak build and still end up saving money! :) This idea makes more sense to me.
Kaiserketkar | 8 years ago
Jeep is back in India. This time with the Wrangler Unlimited and Grand Cherokee. We are going to be covering this launch and media preview from Jodhpur, August 29 and August 30. Read the posts below for details on these off-road SUVs. The prices of the Jeeps in India: (11am) Jeep Wrangler Unlimited: Rs 71,59,104 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited: Rs 93,64,527 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit: Rs 1,03,39,919 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT: 1,12,07,825 (All Prices Ex-Showroom New Delhi)
:eek::eek: It just doesn't make any sense, this pricing! It's way above overpriced. Considering that they've taken their own sweet time bringing the Jeep brand [first announcement I remember was made in 2012], one would think that they prepared to bring in at least a SKD and set up assembly here in India. But 4 years later, all we have is a CBU that's priced, well, stupidly. But then again, this is Fiat we're talking about. Maybe we shouldn't have had such expectations from them.
JOY | 8 years agoI always thought the Mahindra Thar's interior looked quite good for well, a mahindra. from what we saw in the past(before the XUV5OO). Now I know where they got the "Inspiration" from ;) Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (~72 lakhs) Mahindra Thar(~6 Lakhs) Price difference of a whooping 66 lakhs is a no brainer, buy the Thar and spend a little more, to spruce it up :D . On another note, with this Super premium price tags, the Cherokee and the SRT have got themselves the exclusivity X factor I had pointed before. Now that the lesser mortals cant afford it, the Celebrities will seriously take a look at it. The model itself is new in the Indian market and is quite an accomplished offroader too, giving them bragging rights. I hope things work out this way other wise the jeep showrooms would be just as functional as the FIAT Dealerships now.
Jijo | 8 years agoOff-road enthusiasts were waiting for their icon the Wrangler, and finally, the Jeep has launched the Wrangler Unlimited (5-door version) in India at an ex-showroom price of 71.59 lakh. Powering the Wrangler Unlimited is a 2.8-litre CRD turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine that produces 200 PS at 3,600 rpm and 460 Nm of torque at 1,600-2,000 rpm. This motor is mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission and Command-Trac four-wheel drive as standard. The claimed ARAI-rated fuel efficiency stands at 12.1 km/l. As there is only one variant, the Wrangler Unlimited comes loaded with features like a 6.5-inch colour touchscreen unit with voice command, 40 GB hard drive, GPS navigation, Alpine premium sound system, 17-inch wheels, heated front seats, automatic temperature control and a tyre pressure monitoring system. The Wrangler Unlimited is available in six colour options. The five-speed auto box and shift-on-the-fly part-time 4WD Wrangler Unlimited also comes with a wide range of standard safety kit including standard advanced multistage front airbags and side supplemental airbags with sensor detection, body-on-frame construction, an on-road/off-road four-wheel disc Antilock Brake System (ABS) and Brake Assist. Specifications-

Kerb weight- 2,119 kg
Approach angle- 35 degree
Breakover angle- 18 degree
Departure angle- 28 degree
Length- 4583 mm
Width- 1877 mm
Height- 1829
Wheelbase- 2947 mm
Ground clearance- 238 mm
All the Jeep models come with a 2 year/unlimited kilometre warranty. Though it is not fair comparing this true blue off-road vehicle with other SUVs in the price range. But, in this price bracket, it competes against the likes of BMW X5, Audi Q7 and Volvo XC90. Check out this detailed thread on Jeep Cherokee variants, features and specifications.
Nikil | 8 years agoOut of these SUVs that were launched, only the SRT makes sense considering the competition it will face. The SRT's primary rivals are the Range Rover Sport SVR (with a 5-litre Supercharged V8 that produces 550hp and 680Nm of torque capable of hitting a ton in 4.1 seconds and costs a whopping Rs 2.12 crore) and the BMW X5 M (with a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 that puts out 567hp and 750Nm of torque with a top speed limited to 250kmph and costs around Rs 1.6 crore). In this company, the SRT seems like a bargain with a price tag of Rs 1.12 crore. The Grand Cherokee SRT has a massive brute of an engine - a 6.8-litre HEMI V8 that produces 470 horses. Yes, it is down on power but you save nearly Rs 50 lakh by not buying the BMW X5 M. Makes sense now, doesn't it!
Nikil | 8 years agoThe much awaited Jeep brand is finally here in India with the launch of the Grand Cherokee and the iconic Wrangler. At the launch event, Jeep announced that they will be setting up 10 showrooms in the country. These showrooms will be based in the cities below.

Ahmedabad
Chandigarh
New Delhi
Lucknow
Kolkata
Mumbai
Hyderabad
Bangalore
Chennai
Kochi
Out of these, only the showroom in Ahmedabad is live right now. Jeep India will begin operation in New Delhi and Chennai next month (September). In October, Jeep India will set up a showroom in Mumbai and also open up a second one in New Delhi. Other cities will get their own showroom by the end of this year. Jeep India has assured customers that they will get the best service experience along with Road Side Assistance (RSA). They added that this is just the beginning and that we should expect more to come in the near future. The Wrangler, the SUV that most off-road enthusiasts have been waiting for, seems overpriced at Rs 71 lakh. However, Jeep is likely to start assembling the Wrangler in the country from next year which should bring down the price significantly.
Jijo | 8 years agoThe prices are something we didn't expect at all. Given that all Jeep models are imported as CBU (completely built units), there is a tax of 120%, but still, just look at the prices! Jeep says they will start assembling (CKD products only attracts 60% import tax) these products from 2017, expect the prices to drop by a considerable margin then. So till then, it was nice knowing you Jeep! (All prices are ex-showroom, New Delhi)
Roshun | 8 years agoJeep is launching the brand in India, August 30, with three of its iconic products - the five-door Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited and Summit and the souped up Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT. Jeep is celebrating its 75th anniversary, as the brand has been made since 1941. Next year (2017), Jeep will launch an all-new made-in-India Jeep which will be assembled in India. But right now, it is bringing these three in as CBUs, hence the highly inflated price tags, because of the 125% import duties and then some other levies. Jeep is investing $289 million in its plant in Ranjangaon near Pune for the made-in-India Jeep. The power trains: The Grand Cherokee SRT is the flagship SUV, with a huge V8 6.4 litre petrol engine that puts out 470 PS of power and 624 Nm of torque with an 8-speed automatic transmission, and full-time all-wheel drive. The Grand Cherokee will come with a V6 3-litre diesel engine again with an 8-speed automatic, putting out 240 bhp of power. The Wrangler Unlimited comes with a 2.8 litre four-cylinder diesel engine that puts out 200 bhp of power and 460 Nm of torque with a 5-speed automatic and four-wheel drive with a low-range 4x4 gearbox. The Wrangler Unlimited is the one that looks the hottest among the range. It has a removable hard top, with an in-built roll-on soft top, removable doors and is trail-rated for off-road performance. The Grand Cherokee SRT is the top-of-the-line Grand Cherokee that will appeal to those who want speed, performance and bragging rights. Jeep will be retailed through 10 dealerships in 9 cities in India.
Roshun | 8 years agoJeep is back in India. This time with the Wrangler Unlimited, Grand Cherokee Limited, Grand Cherokee Summit and Grand Cherokee SRT. We were at this launch and media preview in Jodhpur on August 29 and August 30. (Post updated) Read the posts below for details on these off-road SUVs. First up the prices, which have kind of shocked the enthusiast community. Here is the price list for Jeep in India: Jeep Wrangler Unlimited: Rs 71,59,104 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited: Rs 93,64,527 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit: Rs 1,03,39,919 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT: 1,12,07,825 (All Prices Ex-Showroom New Delhi) The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited: The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT and Grand Cherokee Summit What I like about Jeep: * The Wrangler Unlimited is the ultimate off-road machine enthusiasts dream of * Wrangler Unlimited can be converted to a soft top, open top or hard top - all in one machine * Cherokee SRT is a fantastic combination of power, performance and luxury all rolled into an off-road machine * Cherokee Summit and Limited combine luxury and off-road performance in an attractive package * Excellent equipment list on the Cherokees. What I hate about Jeep: * Price - the Wrangler Unlimited is way too overpriced, killing whatever appeal it would have had * Price - The Grand Cherokee Summit and Limited are too expensive. Buyers may look at other luxury brands at similar or even lower price points. * Price - The equivalent Jeeps minus duties are 1/3rd the price in the US. The Wrangler Unlimited was imported for Rs. 21.5 lakh before duties. * Dealership reach - Only two dealers at launch and 10 planned. But with that pricing, I don't think Jeep is going to need many dealers in India Who should buy a Jeep: Someone with plenty of cash to spare who is just in awe of the brand and its heritage since 1941.
