Nikil | 8 years agoMahindra & Mahindra recently released a sketch of a new concept called the XUV Aero which is likely to be the company’s future flagship. The XUV Aero concept is an SUV with the stance of a coupe much like the BMW X6 and Merc’s GLE Coupe. From the sketches, it is evident that the concept will get a sloping roofline, prominent lines on the side and several creases in true Mahindra style. Upright tail lamps and chunky bumpers give the SUV an aggressive stance. The concept is likely to be showcased at the Auto Expo 2016 next week. The concept, designed by the company’s Indian design team, is surely going to be a hit in ‘my car is bigger than yours’ market here. Here's a rendering of what the production version could look like from the chaps at Indianautosblog.com Image courtesy: indianautosblog / SRK Designs

Lets hope they price it neck to neck with the Hyundai Creta. Stressing on the 'sunroof' again. I know people who had bought the i20 (prev gen) for almost 9 Lakhs just for the sunroof !

Mr. Fox | 8 years agoHere's the teaser video of the Maruti Vitara Brezza. I believe it is based on the Swift platform, so expect to see plenty of common parts between the Swift, Baleno and Brezza. It will also probably have the same engines - 1.2K series petrol and 1.3 multijet diesel. Maruti, can you surprise us with that booster jet I hear you are planning for the Baleno? I | 8 years agoThe Elantra for the money it costs offers great VFM! I think the current gen auto model uses a standard torque converter transmission, would love to see Dual clutch there! BTW it's the cheapest car in the Indian car market to offer ventilated seats cooling AND heating!
Nikil | 8 years agoHyundai is likely to launch the all-new the Elantra at the Indian Auto Expo. The new Elantra, showcased first at the LA Auto Show in November last year, is 20mm longer and 25 mm wider than the car it replaces and this is bound to increase space inside the cabin. The new Elantra gets a significantly modified face at the front. In comes an all-new hexagonal grille which is deeper and looks much more meaner than the ones on the older car. The headlamps look the same, but they are in fact slightly smaller than the ones on the older car. The headlamps are projector units with led day time running lights incorporated inside the unit. The fog lamps are housed just below in a C-shape mount and enhances the mean look of the car. Bold lines extend from the headlamps to the rear and makes the car look sharp. The rear profile, however, remains unchanged except for an all-new tail cluster with led elements. The new Elantra was launched in UAE recently with two engine options - 2.0-litre MPI petrol and 1.6-litre MPI petrol. Of the petrol motors, I think the one that would make it to our shore would be the 1.6 MPI engine. The engines could one mated to either a seven-speed double clutch automatic or six-speed manual transmission. Expect the Toyota Corolla Altis/Skoda Octavia rival to be priced round the Rs 14 lakh mark.
Nikil | 8 years agoMaruti Suzuki is likely to preview the Baleno RS at the Auto Expo. The RS version of the premium hatchback will get a sporty body kit and wider tyres and wheels. But what I can't wait for the most is the debut of the 1-litre Boosterjet engine. This engine will be make power than the 1.3-litre DDiS (Fiat's MultiJet) diesel motor and the 1.2-litre K series engine.

Nikil | 8 years agoThis years Auto Expo will not feature bike manufacturers like Bajaj, Royal Enfield and Harley Davidson. Don’t fret though, there’s still so many other manufacturers who’ll vie for your attention this year. Let’s start with one of the biggest bike maker’s in the world - Hero MotoCorp. Hero MotoCorp is expected to launch the production version of much awaited HX250R. The HX250R concept was on display at the last edition of the Auto Expo. When launched, the HX 250R bike, I reckon, will be one of the cheapest 250cc machines you can own in the country. HX250R could be the most affordable 250cc machine in the country Hero could also launch an all-new 150cc scooter - the ZIR 150. This scooter sort of resembles the Kinetic Blaze that was sold in India eons back. I’m pretty sure this new scooter will be a trend setter in the segment. Hero MotoCorp could also preview a production-ready Hero Hastur at this years event. ZIR 150 and Hero Hastur Concept (below) On to the Japs now. Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) is expected to preview the twin headlight models of the CBR series. But the showstopper for the Auto Expo would definitely be the CBR300R, an aggressive looking 300cc bike to take on the Yamaha R3. Honda, too, is planning on launching a Blaze-like scooter. This scooter, christened the PCX, may come with either a 12cc or 150cc engine. This bike would be cheaper to buy than the R3 and will probably have performance mods tuned specifically for the streets. Other notable products Yamaha plans on bringing to the show are a more affordable version of the R1 named Yamaha R1S and the mighty MT-10 which is basically the naked version of the Yamaha R1. A smaller capacity (probably 125cc) street fighter called the M-Slaz could also be part of Yamaha’s grand plans for India for the next financial year. It's that simple! Suzuki, which has regained its mojo with the launch of the Suzuki Gixxer and Gixxer SF, is likely to bring the quarter litre Gixxer - the Suzuki GSX-S1000 - to the show. A faired version of this street naked called the Suzuki GSX-S1000F could also make it to our shores soon. Suzuki will also preview the rear disc brake-equipped Gixxer/SF. To pique my love affair for these beauts, DSK Benelli will bring the recently unveiled Ductai Scrambler rival called the Leoncino Scrambler. The Leoncino is expected to give the Ductai Scrambler a run for its money with its rugged looks and cheaper price tag. To take on the Yamaha R3, Benelli will bring in the Tornado 300 to our shores soon, so we can expect this model also to be previewed at the Auto Expo. Benelli also plans on expanding their adventure tourer TRK series with the new TRK 502/500. Benelli bikes that are already on sale in India like the TNT 25 will also be displayed at their stall. But the surprise package of them all could be a cheaper TNT 15 equipped with a single cylinder 150cc engine. The Hyosung GT300R (above) On to our desi brands TVS and Mahindra. TVS is likely to preview the G310R made in collaboration with BMW. Only problem being, the bike may lose the Bimmer badge for the running horse one. But still, this is going to be a cracker of a bike to ride. Other surprises may be in store in the form of an all-new RTR 250 and RTR 200. The current lineup could also get new colours. The BMW G310R could get a TVS badge in India Mahindra 2 Wheelers will showcase the Mojo and Gusto, but they are expected to bring some concepts as well, a hint to their future product lineup. Ok. On to the not-so-Indian Indian Motorcycles then. The iconic brand is expected to launch its most affordable bike yet called the Scout Sixty. Expect other models to be part of the show as well. Indian Scout Sixty UM Global India, which makes bikes that look like Harley for the aam aadmi, is expected to launch the Renegade Commando and Renegade Sport at the show. These bikes will be priced on par or cheaper than the Royal Enfields and Bajaj’s Avenger lineup but I don’t expect to see many of them on our roads anytime soon. Last but not the least is one of my top favourite bike makers ever - Triumph Motorcycles. The brits will put on display their updated lineup of Speed triple, Street Triple and also the brand new range of Bonnevile series of bikes. Yum, I just can’t wait to swing a leg over these machines! Nikil | 8 years agoOne brand I can’t wait to land in India is Jeep and now with Fiat Chrysler’s India president and managing director Kevin Flynn confirming that the iconic brand will start selling cars here from mid-2016, expect the company to display a couple of their butch SUVs at this years Auto Expo. The first Jeep to be sold in India, according to latest reports, is the Grand Cherokee. The Grand Cherokee will be equipped with a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine which could be mated to an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission. This motor puts out 237bhp and 570Nm of torque. This would be followed by the launch of the iconic Wrangler and Jeep’s new crossover Renegade. The Wrangler is likely to be offered with two engine options - a 3.5 petrol and a 2.8-litre diesel mill. Later on, Jeep plans on assembling their cars at Fiat’s plant. The company is also planning on opening separate dealerships for the Jeep brand but could use Fiat’s existing dealers to sell the initial lot of cars. Jijo | 8 years agoAnother car to look out for this Auto Expo is the Maruti Wagon-R 7 Seater MPV. The launch is slated to take place sometime later in 2016. Nikil | 8 years agoHere's whats going to be the biggest launch for Honda at the Auto Expo 2016 - the Honda BR-V. The BR-V was unveiled recently and Zighweels and Gaadi.com were invited for a short test ride of the car. When launched, the BR-V will compete with Hyundai's best-selling Creta, Renault-Nissan's Duster and Terrano twins and the Mahindra XUV 500. This SUV will bet the fourth vehicle to based on the Brio platform. Nikil | 8 years agoMaruti Suzuki is likely to preview its upcoming sub-4 metre crossover Ignis at the Auto Expo in February. Based on the iM-4 concept what was previewed at the Geneva Motor Show last year, the Ignis is 3,979mm long and will enjoy excise cuts when launched in India. When launched, the Inis will go head-to-head with Ford’s EcoSport, Mahindra’s TUV 100 and KUV 100. The Ignis’ design stays true to the crossover SUV design most manufacturers are adhering to. With a boxy shape, flared wheel arches and large wheels, the Ignis’ looks the part. On the inside, the Ignis’ will feature a thoroughly modern design but it remains to be seen if Maruti will share bits from other cars to keep prices in check. I do hope Maruti doesn’t go down that way but instead offer a premium feel inside. The Ignis will have ample ground clearance to tackle our roads and with a high seating position, it should be a breeze to drive around town too. As far as powertrains are concerned, Suzuki has been reluctant in sharing information about the Inis with the press but I expect that the crossover SUV to be powered by a 1.2-litre DualJet petrol motor. A CVT transmission could be offered as an option with this engine. This motor could also get the SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) system. With the SHVS system, the Ignis’ will be exempted from Delhi’s odd-even rule as well. The 1.0-litre Boosterjet petrol engine from the Baleno sold internationally could also make it to the country depending on customers’ response. While Maruti Suzuki hasn’t confirmed yet if India would get the Ignis anytime in the future, the chances of it landing on our shores for now are pretty slim. This is primarily because the manufacturer is all set to launch the sub-4 metre SUV - The Vitara Brezza - at this years Auto Expo. But I do hope Maruti sells this car alongside the Vitara Brezza. If launched, the Ignis’ could be priced in the Rs 6-8 lakh price range depending on the variant.

Vidit | 8 years ago
What do you think will be the show stoppers at this year's Auto Expo? I think some of the cars to look out for, in no particular order: * Ford Endeavour * Tata Hexa * Honda BR-V * Maruti Vitara Brezza (XA Alpha) * Mahindra's KUV100 (which would already be launched by then, as it is launching on January 15) * Tata Zica (Again, would already be available) * Volkswagen Bora / Stuffe (a notchback design / compact sedan based on the Polo platform, to fall in between the Polo & Vento) * The new look Toyota Innova * New Skoda Superb * Jaguar XE * Toyota Vios * Probably a Ford Mustang * Jeep Wrangler Among the bikes, there's the Triumph Bonneville Street Twin, Thruxton R, and others that may be showcased. See this thread Then there's the Kawasaki Vulcan and Moto Guzzi. Touring / Adventure fans will be looking forward to the Royal Enfield Himalayan at the Expo. Nikil | 8 years agoSome sources say Huyndai is likely to launch a sub-4 metre SUV at the Auto Expo this year. Can someone tell me if there is any truth in these speculation? Mr. Fox JijoMalayil any idea?
Nikil | 8 years agoGerman auto major Volkswagen today announced today that it will its much awaited compact sedan based on the Vento will make its debut at the 13th edition of the Auto Expo set be held from February 5-9. The manufacturer also said that the Tiguan SUV and the Passat GTE plug-in hybrid would also be showcased at the event. Image courtesy: indianautosblog.com The sub-four meter sedan, Volkswagen say, was developed specifically for the Indian market and would be produced at the manufacturers car plant in Chakan. The new compact sedan will face stiff competition in the segment from the likes of the Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, Tata’s Zest, Ford’s Figo Aspire and Hyundai’s Xcent. The sedan will share powertrains with the Polo hatchback, so one can expect the 1.2-litre petrol motor and a 1.5-litre diesel mill under the hood. The top-end petrol version may even come with Volkswagen’s 7-speed DSG gearbox. The second-generation Tiguan SUV, unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show in 2015, is something Volkswagen has placed its bets on to do well in India. While the country missed out on the first generation of this SUV, the second generation, based on the MQB platform that also underpins the new Skoda Octavia and Volkswagen’s Passat, will be cheaper to produce in India. Internationally, the Tiguan is available with up to eight powertrains in various markets, but for the Indian market Volkswagen might just go for the 2.0-litre diesel engine putting out 148bhp. The Tiguan will take on the upcoming Hyundai Tucson (refer to earlier post) and its cousin Skoda Yeti, so expect it to be priced around the Rs 16-20 lakh price spectrum. The Passat GTE, a plug-in hybrid, will offer a preview to the all-new Passat which is likely to be launched at the end of the year. The plug-in hybrid car gets a 1.4-litr TSI engine producing 154bhp combined with a 60hp electric motor. Volkswagen says the car can do 50 km on electric power. The claimed petrol-electric range for the car is said to be around 1,000 km. Volkswagen will also display the new Beetle, Polo, Cross Polo, Vento and the Jetta.
Jijo | 8 years agoOne more to the list vehicles to be showcased at the Delhi Auto Expo 16, the third gen Hyundai Tucson. We might be familiar the first-gen Tucson from Hyundai which was dis-continued in 2008. The Tucson was not very popular in India, high prices to be blamed. Hyundai skipped the second generation Tucson altogether in India, and now sensing the demand for luxury crossovers in the market, here comes this move. Tucson will be powered by 2.0 litre CRDi diesel engine producing a peak power of 182 bhp and a peal tourque of 400 Nm, which comes mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Styling looks fresh with those hexagonal front grille, DRLs and twin LED projector headlamps. Space inside is aplenty with a well laid design theme, it stands out and looks premium. Optional 19 inch alloy are also up for grabs, a first from Hyundai. Hyundai's active on demand all wheel drive system is also being offered with the Tucson. List of features include A 405 watt Sirius audio system with a total of 8 speakers, a five inch touch screen interface, reversing camera among others. Safety features include Automatic Emergency Braking, Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Warning System, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross-traffic Alert, Lane Change Assist among others. We expect Hyundai to launch the New Tucson just after the Auto Expo, expect prices to hover around the Rs 18-20 lakh mark. Picture credits: rushlane.com

Jijo | 8 years agoThe 12th edition, yeah! Motor Show is scheduled to be held from 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] - 9[SUP]th[/SUP] February 2016, with the first two days reserved for media at the India Expo Mart in Greater Noida. While the components section will be held at Pragiti Maidan in Delhi from 4[SUP]th[/SUP] -7th February. Check out http://www.autoexpo.in/ for details.
Swati | 8 years agoEvery two years, thousands of car enthusiasts eagerly wait to catch just a glimpse of what the auto expo has to offer. Started in the year 1986, the Delhi auto expo is Asia’s largest, world’s second largest and is always a sight to behold. Held at Pragati Maidan & Greater Noida, the expo is usually a five day affair for general public. Apart from bringing an end to dreariness in one’s mundane day to day life, it provides auto enthusiasts and others likewise with an opportunity to explore the vast world of automobiles. Every possible existing auto manufacturer presents the flock of visitors with a view of their upcoming and at times soon to be launched automobiles. What auto expo does for a person is that it enables them with knowledge and insight of what the new vehicles are and as to when they will be launched. This in turn provides them with a chance to decide whether they want to try their hand at current market availabilities or to wait for new entries. What often renders the viewers breathless are the prototypes or concept cars unveiled at the expo. These prototypes manage to intricately weave a web of imagination, luxury and future in one singular creation. Most manufacturers often unveil their futuristic designs to a gasping audience. Big label makers like Lamborghini, BMW, Mercedes and Audi to name a few are amongst the large list of those who often devote a substantial amount of time, sweat and money in developing their concept cars. Sometimes it seems that they create seemingly ‘normal’ cars just to keep themselves afloat while their true love lies within creating futuristic supercars. For laymen like myself it’s not always possible to be part of auto expos which take place round the world. Hence it here where the Delhi expo comes in handy as global models of several automobiles are also unveiled at this platform. It provides the onlookers with an opportunity to come face to face with global models which would have been showcased at other overseas expo. The show has a wide variety of automobiles vis-à-vis a type meant for select few with a bag full of money or something which is affordable by the masses. It has something to offer to all, something to melt the hearts of every auto enthusiast and leave them awe struck. The first two days of the expo is reserved for press but the latter five are open to all, which means a heavy crowd shoveling past each other, struggling, swaying from one foot to another just so as to witness a car in its full glory. From the last edition of the expo, it has been split in two parts. The one held at Pragati Maidan is for car automobile components and accessories while the one held at India Expo Mart, Greater Noida is the automobiles itself. The splitting of the expo owes it all the massive turn up of the overtly enthusiastic car lovers and the constant growth of this crowd. To sum it all up, the Auto expo for a car enthusiast is what Disneyland is to a child.
