BMW took the wraps off the 2017 BMW 3 Series GT at the Paris Motor Show last week. The new GT is based on the F30 LCI platform and gets all the updates which were received earlier this year by the 3 Series sedan. BMW India has also announced that this 2017 model will go on sale in India from 19th October'16. A lot of people have doubts on what purpose the GT actually solves and its to do with rear seat comfort and space. Given the situation in our country where most of the luxury sedans are driven by chauffeurs, it makes sense to go in for the GT rather than the 3 sedan. I feel its more value of money as it is a purpose built car for higher comfort. In a series of new feature and gizmos, the front of the new 3 GT gets adaptive LED headlights, LED foglamps and revised outer air intakes (for the engine to breath better) The rear also gets a fresh treatment with new LED tail lights and L-shaped light graphics. It also gets a redesigned rear apron and a larger diameter exhaust pipes to give a slightly aggressive look. For any prospective owner, what matters the most is the interior. BMW has taken care of that and added some high-gloss black surfaces and some cool electroplated and chrome accents. This face-lift also gets the latest Navigation system along with the latest Android Auto/Apple CarPlay. The 2017 3 GT also gets a host of new exterior colors, wheel designs and interior customization options. Globally, this car is available in 3 petrol variants (320i, 330i and 340i) and 5 diesel engines (318d, 320d, 325d, 330d and 335d xDrive). Do not get your expectations high, India will only receive one or at max two engines. We will get the 2.0 liter diesel engine, which has been updated to produce 190PS of power and 400Nm of torque. Along with this, expect BMW to launch the 320i as well, keeping with the changing patterns of consumer demand. Stay tuned to this space for more on this car.
