    [USER="20"]NikilSJ[/USER] Yeah, the Kristal DTS-i was apparently an engineering disaster. The scooter looked good but it wasn't mechanically sound. The fuel tank was at the front and a fuel pump fed fuel to the engine and it was powered by a small battery. That caused multiple starting issues and moreover, the pricing was a bit too high at that time. These things put off people from going for it and many ended up buying the reliable, no-nonsense Activa instead.

    Apparently, Bajaj has been mulling for some time now on whether to bring back the Chetak brand or not. This time, the Chetak is likely to be a retro scooter with an automatic gearbox and, if rumors are to be believed, they will have an entire lineup of Chetak's to take on the Vespa. Bajaj's market share has been declining at faster rate than they had expected just because of the lack of automatic scooters in their lineup. Their last attempt, if I remember correctly, was the Kristal DTS-i.

Royal Enfield was in shambles because of the stiff competition from modern bikes and the brand got a new lease of life only after the Classic was born. Customers like the prospect of owning a classic-modern love child and that has kept the bike selling like hot-cakes. I feel Mahindra should also go down this route now that they've acquired Jawa and BSA. Hell, even Bajaj should bring a modern, affordable version of the Chetak to rival the Vespa!
