UPDATE : The Mercedes Benz S Class Cabriolet & C Class Cabriolet launch is underway, scroll down for live updates.
Mercedes-Benz is set to launch the cabriolet versions of the S-Class and the C-Class in India on November 9, 2016. When the S-Class Cabriolet was showcased at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show in 2015, Mercedes-Benz called it the most beautiful and exclusive S-Class that it has ever built. So what makes the S-Class Cabriolet so special? Let’s find out.

To start off, the S-Class Cabriolet will be powered by the 4.7-litre V8 twin-turbo petrol engine that comes as standard in the S-Class sedan. This engine in the cabriolet will make 455PS of power and 700Nm of torque and will be mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. Maximum speed has been restricted to 250kmph but the S-Class Cabriolet will be able to hit a ton in a claimed 4.6 seconds making it one of the fastest cabriolets to be sold in the country.
For the more performance oriented customer, Mercedes-Benz will even offer the S63 AMG version. This version will be powered by the 5.5-litre V8 twin-turbo petrol engine that makes 585PS of power and 900Nm of torque at the crank. The S63 AMG version will do a ton in a claimed 4.2 seconds too! If that fails to satisfy you, the S65 AMG with 638PS of power (0-to-100kmph in 4.1 sec) should suffice.
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet will share a lot of design elements from the coupe version that is already on sale in the country. The large diamond-finished grille and sweeping LED headlights will be part of the standard package. For the roof, Mercedes-Benz has opted for a three-layer soft top which can be raised and lowered at speeds of up to 60kmph in less than 20 seconds.
In terms of dimensions, the S-Class Cabriolet measures 5,027mm in length, 1,899mm in width and 1,417mm in height.
What makes the S-Class Cabriolet truly special, however, is the cabin which too is borrowed from the coupe version. In addition to all the gizmos on the coupe, the cabriolet will also get the Thermotropic intelligent climate control system that takes care of cabin cooling even if the roof is raised or lowered. The system will even be able to monitor humidity levels outside the cabin and prevent the windscreen from fogging up.

A host of customisation options too should be available and customers will be able to choose different shades of premium or Nappa leather. The international version of the cabriolet comes with the option of a warmth comfort package which gets you heated steering wheels, seats and armrests although they seem unnecessary for a country like ours.
The standard S500 Cabriolet will be equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels, AIRMATIC suspension and heated and ventilated seats among other options. An assistance package which includes a 360 degree camera, active blind spot assist and other safety options will offered as options. The AMG trim, however, is expected to be fully kitted out and will come with unique 20-inch wheels, twin chrome-plated exhausts, Swarovski LED crystal headlamps and a superb 23-speaker Burmester sound system.
The S-Class Cabriolet will compete with the Continental GT Speed Convertible, so expect it to cost between Rs 2.0 crore to Rs 2.5 crore.
Here's some more drool worthy pictures of the S-Class Cabriolet:
Measuring more than 5 metres in length, the S-Class Cabriolet is like a yacht on wheels.
The fabric soft-top can open or close in a mere 20 seconds.
Not many will be able to afford a view like this.
The S500 Cabriolet with it's grandad.
The current S-Class range in one glorious shot.
Looks gorgeous doesn't it. I especially like the strong shoulder line and waist line on this one. The way the rear end droops is equally stunning.
The AMG version doesn't get the diamond-studded grille. Sad.
C-Class Cabriolet
Not enough balance in your bank account for the S-Class? Then the C-Class, expected to cost around Rs 50 lakh, should be of interest to you.
While the C-Class Cabriolet is available wit six petrol and two diesel options internationally, only the C300 Cabriolet with the 2.0-litre four cylinder turbocharged petrol engine will make its way to our country. This engine produces 245PS of power and 370Nm of torque and is mated to a 9-speed automatic ‘box. The company claims the C300 Cabriolet will do the 0-100kmpg sprint in 6.7 seconds. Top speed, like all luxe barges from Germany, is limited to 250kmph.
Look at it from any angle, the S-Class resemblance is unmistakable.

The C300's roof raises or lowers in 24 seconds flat.
The C300 Cabriolet looks like a miniature version of the S-Class Cabriolet, so you can expect design elements like the diamond-studded grille and the LED headlamps to feature in the smaller convertible as well. The C300 Cabriolet too uses the same three-layered fabric roof and should raise or lower in a claimed 24 seconds (at 50kmph). When launched the C300 Cabriolet will not have any direct rivals and should prompt other rival manufacturers to bring their convertibles to India.
Gorgeous interior although I don't know how practical the rear seats are going to be.
