Rolls-Royce, the name synonymous to high-end luxury sedans, are broadening their horizon and jumping on the SUV bandwagon. Rolls-Royce is following suit after Bentley came out with their SUV, the Bentayga and Maserati with theirs - the Levante. The Rolls-Royce SUV, that is being called Project Cullinan for now, is expected to be launched in 2018 and the British carmaker has released two prototype images and confirmed that they will start the rigorous testing of the SUV starting this week. The Cullinan is likely to based on the new aluminium space frame architecture which could be used in future Rolls-Royce products. We also expect the same 6.8-litre V12 engine to power the Cullinan and there might be a hybrid variant in the pipeline. So how does Cullinan look? From the camouflaged test mule, the Cullinan looks identical to the Phantom from the front, at least the lower part. The Cullinan gets the massive radiator grille and the trademark Spirit of Ecstasy above it. Also seen are LED headlamps and that contrasting silver roof like the one seen on the Ghost. The Cullinan also gets a high waistline and increased ground clearance which helps it venture into the SUV territory. The render posted above gives us a fair idea of how the Cullinan will look like. If Cullinan turns out to be the way it is, Rolls-Royce has managed to maintain that elegance in Cullinan’s design.
