Anuradha | 6 years ago

I have also recently bought a dominar but it is heating too much even at low speed as 50 and cooling of engine starts only when I stop the bike the heating of engine is too much how to solve this please tell i am really worried thanks ...
Bipin | 6 years agoHi. I got my Dominar 3 weeks back. The only issue i am facing is that in 3rd or 4th gear, the engine runs smooth with linear acceleration. If i twist the throttle a little harder while overtaking, i hear huge engine noise and vibration. Its like the engine is under lot of stress. Never seen this before on any bike and this being my 3rd bike from bajaj, its quite strange. Any suggestions please
Sagar | 6 years agoeven i have the same issue sometimes! rarely at 6k rpm the engine suddenly cutsoff a lot of power and again i am able to go full speed
Lokesh | 6 years agoI bought dominar few days back... and have done 300 km it was nice experience but from last few days I have been noticing this strange sound from my engine with or without acceleration its kind of clicking or tapping sound even though I don't see any performance related problem yet so far. My bike run is 5km in a week :) only.. please help me out with this.

Gulam | 6 years agohey my dominar not runnig smoothly and after 10km runnig rpm increase
Pavan | 6 years agoMy dominar has odo reading of 3000kms currently but still the max.rpm I can reach is 4.5k. how can I resolve it.
Chaitanya | 6 years agoI bought the bike just 2 weeks ago, 10km ride and there is lot heat generated, it really starts hurting . Is this common in new bike or this needs to be taken to service.
Arjun | 6 years agoSatbir_Singh I could not understand the problem properly. Is the sound coming when you are shifting down, or moving to neutral? The gearbox will make a noise if you stop while in gear without pulling the clutch. If its a noise from the gearbox in a normal riding condition, it should be taken care as a part of the warranty.
Satbir | 6 years agoi have ridden my dominar for 6900 KM, and only second service is done so far, my gear box has started to make the nise as if the gears are struggling to settle, this happens whn i come down to zero speed (usually in traffic), i am just concerned to know that will this be covered under warranty..? if any one has the answer..
Argha | 6 years agoHi I am from Kolkata, My Dominar 400 is 2500 km old. The bike was okay. But it started to problem recently, sudden power drop, sometimes engine stops. I went to service center & they fixed it. But now its again happening in another way. In 3rd gear 30-35 kph the bike suddenly drops power if I don't go beyond the rpm. In 4th gear it also happening.
Mahesh | 6 years agoRajesh Jalubula I bro happy to here tht ur problem is solved. I have the same issue with my dominar... The engine is choking at the speed of 90+ the total km covered is 600 now. I already reported this choking issue at my first service but they said there is no issue the bike is smooth above 70 KMPH . But still i face the same problem I don't know what to do to fix this problem my local service places are telling the same thing that there is no problem with the bike... What should I do??????
John | 6 years ago[QUOTE_NODE]"Originally posted by Rajesh Jalubula" Hello Zigwheelers, This is my first post in zigwheels. (Excited and happy). . This is regarding an issue i found with the bike i recently bought- Bajaj Dominar 400.So, I took the delivery of the vehicle on 30th of Jan 2017. I went for midnight blue color variant. Looks are killers. The gloss finish really make the heads turn. Especially, the part of the bike from the driver's seat till the headlight is real attraction. The rear is so-so. Head lights needs special mention. The LED headlights really does their job well both in performance and looks. God knows how many times i was told to turn the headlights off by others, and I was completely helpless to tell that they are always ON. I did around 250 kilometers on first two days maintaining a speed between 70-80 and occasionally going till 90 , but still maintaining the rpm under 5k as suggested by the dealers. The next day i wanted to check the real raw power of the bike and decided to go beyond 90 kph. I crossed the 90 barrier, going linearly. 91, 92, 93..... Drop of power. The RPM indicator hit 5.5k and fell back to 5k and speed fell to 85 kph. Couldn't figure out what just happened? I dismissed it off and gave it another try. 91,92, 93, 94.. drop of power. Oh my god!! I cant believe it. Why is there a choking of engine at 90 kph. Is it by default or is there a defect in my vehicle? I just couldn't understand. However, I answered myself saying that it is still too early to come to any conclusion and hoped that this will be resolved during the first service. Before i give the vehicle for service , I wanted to try again to see if still the problem existed. I checked it thrice and all those times i could see the power drop. Issue confirmed.Next day, took the vehicle to the service center as the little wrench lit up in the primary screen mentioning that the vehicle needs to be serviced. Reported the issue i faced and mechanics assured that it will be resolved. I have even asked them if any one else reported this issue to which they said none. My worry levels shot up. The mechanic drove the bike himself and he noticed the power drop too. He said he will look into it. I gave the vehicle for service on 2nd of Feb and mechanics unfortunately couldn't the issue by the end of the day. I had to take the bike as i had few commitments on it and said that i will drop the bike tomorrow at the service center so that they can look into it more leisurely. I dropped the bike again on 3rd of Feb and waited whole day to get the issue diagnosed. The mechanic is taking it for a ride for every hour and returning back saying the issue is not yet resolved every time he returned back. He asked me to leave the bike so that they can have a closer look. So, I left the service center without any idea of the problem.Waited whole Saturday and Monday( Sunday being holiday) to get a call from the mechanic which i never received. Frustrated, i visited the service center to inquire about it. His response shocked me. He said that there is no issue with the bike at all. Are you kidding me?. When he rode the bike for the first time, he could have told the same. I wasn't convinced. I can understand that there might be initial inertia of the engine that makes your bike little sluggish but chocking of the engine. It's a big no-no. I was angry. Went to the sales manager and complained on the same. He assured me that they have been intimated of the issue and even the Pune engineers are notified on it and they are working to resolve the issue and with in two days I will get a call back from them. It calmed me a little and expecting a call /email from them after two days, I left taking the bike with me.I wrote an email to bajaj customer care, called them, called the regional after sales manager. There were multiple calls made to various persons to make sure this is resolved. Two days later, having not received any email or call from sales/service or Bajaj , i contacted few lawyers to proceed legally ( ) if Bajaj doesn't give me correct response. Later that night , I received an SMS from regional sales manager to meet him on Friday the 10th of Feb. During all these days I haven't even tried to go beyond 90 kph in fear or risk ,whatever you may call. So, i went in to meet him at the service center, expecting the root cause to be found out and resolving it by changing a part. Instead, i was seated and manager did all the sweet talk asking what I liked about the bike and what i didn't. I explained everything and meanwhile the mechanic took the vehicle for a ride. During the conversation, i never heard the words 'Defect', 'replacement' from the manager which i expected rather i heard 'initial' , 'running in period'. It became clear to me. These guys haven't even worked on the issue. Goddammit!! How couldn't they? Don't they have any empathy towards customers? My anger started to raise a bit, but kept it way under control. He then asked me how many kilometers were clocked for which i said it is now 800. He suggested me to go for a test drive to check if the issue is still present. i gladly obliged and was getting myself ready to blast these guys if the issue wasn't resolved. There i was getting ready to test it. Choose a lane which is empty for few minutes due to traffic signals, i revved up the engine. 90,91,92,93.. I was expecting a power drop. However, the engine continued. 94,95,96.....105. No chocking/power drop what so ever. Is it for real? Went for second test ride. 90..100.105.110.. Nope. Not even slightest sign. Seriously!! All right. Let's do one more. 90.100.110.120.129..Oof!! No chocking again. Did the mechanic tweak anything when he took for a ride. I was happy but more than that i was surprised. Because the problem got AUTO RESOLVED. No tweaking, no change of parts. Just the way it was.So, to the guys who are going for this bike there, this is an absolute beast. The pickup is monstrous. Low torque ride is awesome which should make it ideal for city rides too. True, i was disappointed for that period where my bike had issues after 90. But, knowing that it is due to initial wear of engine makes me feel comfortable and happy. Besides, when by standers check the vehicle in awe and admiration makes me as proud as hell.If you guys notice this issue in your bike, please note that there is no reason to worry and it gets resolved by itself after few kilometers and do reply in this post if you have faced this issue.Dominate the night. Peace out.My dealers: Jai Bajaj, Adyar, Chennai. [/QUOTE_NODE] Rajesh Jalubula
Arjun | 6 years agoKedar_Powar There were quite a few problem with the Himalayan, and that's one of the reason why they had stopped the production for a while when they were working on the Euro IV version, in which they claim to have fixed all the issues. If you search online, you can see a lots of complaints by early Himalayan owners, and even I have had a bad experience with a Himalayan I had rented. The brakes were not working fine, and when I returned to the rental place after riding for less than 3kms, and asked them to check, it would not start. It was later found that the battery was not working. All this for a bike that had run only 8k kms. I was not sure if it was a problem with the model, or due to some bad practices by the rental place so I just took a refund for my payment and returned. Try to escalate this issue to RE India, and see if they have a better solution. You may need to change the entire assembly with the newer version, if that would fix the issue, but make sure it is done under warranty.
Kedar | 6 years agoHi. I m kedar powar from Pune. 9922566917 kpowar@gmail.com This is d first time I'm posting on Zigwheels . And I'm glad to see people posting their problems in regards to their bike, even I have been facing a problem with RE himalayan 410cc , purchased on feb 2017. No other problem apart form d cone set ( handle bearings) This is the 3rd consecutive time i hve changed the cone set. 1st from Kings autoriders baner from whr i had purchased the bike, within 2 months of usage dt too within city limits. The bikes cone set was damaged to such an extent dt it got rusted n broken into pieces n finally d handle got jammed in d middle of highway. Fortunately some by-standards hepled me to push d bike to a safe place. As the RE is tough for a single person to push at d bank of d highway. Aftr d cone set dt was changed by kings autoriders ..it went smooth for couple of months as in 3 months to be precise.. Later before RIDERMANIA 2017. I had to replace it again..but this time i had to go to Platiinum which is in fatimanager pune . Due to diwali the baner pune showroom was closed . Got d cone cone set replaced again after comming back from RIDER MANIA. But dis tym i got it replaced from amy local mechanic ..who is been working on RE since 30 years. Now my question is ..should i sell d bike ..or just keep replacing d cone set.. I do not trust d service centers as dey have said to me once (arrogantly) that i might have done lots of off roading...lol ..even when i stated dem about me not doing any off road ... Strange but true ..nowadays its become trend dt a customer is always wrong and the technicians aee always right.. Plz help me what shud i do ..if i sell den which one shud i buy and if u suggest me not to sell den what can be done with d issue of cone set..my bike is still in warrenty. Thnx in advance ..

Arjun | 7 years agoChirag_Chauhan This is the procedure to reset it on the AS200. You can try the same on the Dominar Step 1 : Press “Mode” push button for less than 2 seconds and Select Trip2. Step 2 : Press “Mode” and “Set” button for than 5 seconds continuously. Service
Chirag | 7 years agoHello everyone. I bought my dominar 400 a month ago. I've done 800km already. I have an issue about the service reminder icon. It started glowing at 450km. I did my service at 500 km. I asked the engineers to reset the icon. They said its digital, it will reset by itself. Till now I have been to service station about 4 times but they have given me the same reply. But the icon hasn't gone from the display. What should i do to reset it. Can it be done manually. Please advice.
Sharan | 7 years agoRajesh Jalubula Congratulations Ur issue got resolved and so did my worry of buying a Bajaj bike for 1st time. I've been thinking of getting the d400 as I'm coming of age from my yamaha FZ15.
Arjun | 7 years agoPranjal_Rajput What is the temperature when it shuts down? Is it going to the top of the temperature gauge? The bike will switch off if it over heats, but its not common, and this should not be happening. Are you being given any warning lights when you are riding? The problem with starting again is due to the over heat. However, this should not happen. The bike is designed to start the fan and cool it, and Dominar being in the lower state of tune, does not have major heating issues unlike the Duke 390. I would recommend you to get it checked at the workshop.
Pranjal | 7 years agoPraveen Hay, I bought my dominar 2 days back and i have completed 250km. The issue is that my bike stops in traffic and when I try to start it again it atleast takes 9 to 10 minutes to start again and this thing happened to me 6 times in 2 days. Please suggest what should I Do.
Ksuryavanshi36 | 7 years agoOhh Man ...Not Again.... I am Badly Disappointed with my Dominar 400. This bike is nothing but just piece of junk. Whenever I wish, it to run above 160 KMPH, it hesitates so rigorously... my goodness, It can't be explained in words... why this shit has capacity of 9000 RPMs only...??? Why..? Or bajaj has no faith on their Engines that they won't be able to sustain that velocity...Bullshit man..!!! Can't go beyond 9K RPM in any gear....this is just embarrassing ... Bullshit...Bullshit...Bullshit... a piece of junk. Either Bajaj should develop the programme to cross this limit or they should stop making advertise of GO HYPERRIDING... BLOODY HELL & PIECE OF JUNK...
Mayank | 7 years agoSumit_Pawaskar Dominar doesn't have the heating issues like the KTMs as the Bajaj engines have lower specs then KTM. Both RS and Dominar which actually is a blessing in disguise.
Arjun | 7 years agoKsuryavanshi36 As the Dominar has the same engine as the KTM Duke 390 in a lower tune, an ECU remap may help you a lot. However, Bajaj is providing a ECU update for all its Dominars. It is supposed to fix a few issues and improve performance in high gears. Please check with your service adviser if that is required for your bike.
Ksuryavanshi36 | 7 years agoHi Guys, My name is Kunal & I am looking for Power Kit for Bajaj Dominar 400. Likewise my Dominar goes 140 KMPH in 5th Gear when RPMs are almost 9k to 9.5k & still I have enough throttle to pull but it pulls me back & hesitate to go beyond 9.5k RPM/140 KMPH in 5th gear. unwillingly I need to put my bike in 6th gear, where i could not get expected pull. Hence is there anyone who has any information about Power Kit which allows us to go at least 11k RPM in 5th gear. Please respond with your views & inputs.

Praveen | 7 years ago
Hi everyone, I have done almost 3000km on my Dominar 400. Most of time I ride in city traffic, and occasionally, long rides. Till date I've never faced any performance lag (i mean regarding drop of power) but yesterday suddenly after 75kmph bike gradually powered down as if no fuel was there, to check, I gave another push and again same drop in power.(I am using Bharat Petroleum SPEED fuel). Is it problem regarding the fuel or my bike needs an ECU update to fix it? NOTE: My overall speed in city is 40 - 55 kmph, 75 - 90kmph. On highways 110 - 125kmph at a constant stretch. Kindly suggest solutions.
I think there must be some sort of clogging in the fuel injector. Take the bike to the service center and have them checked. Get it sorted under warranty only. Also, check the quality of the fuel. You can ask the guy at the fuel station to do the test and show you. You can ask them a filter paper and put a few drops of petrol. if there's no stain mark, then the petrol is unadulterated. If it does, then the petrol quality isn't good and you should avoid going to that pump. Hope this helps. Cheers!

Praveen | 7 years ago
Hello everyone, I have got my Dominar 400 in Feburary 2017, Clocked 3000km till date. The gear upshifts are on the harder side(sometimes even downshifts too), 1st gear gives a very big 'thug' sound which is also problem with my earlier KTM RC 200. To check how is the pillion seat comfort, I asked my friend to ride my bike (He owns a Yamaha R15 v2.0) as same he do clutchless upshifts in his bike he did the same on my Dominar and at 3rd gear he didnt match the RPM and a very huge cracking sound came near the gear shifter. After applying clutch it set alright, but do that sound will lead in any of my gears damage? Do i need to check with Service people? Kindly let me know
Firstly, clutchless upshifts are not recommended in these bikes. Superbikes have complex mechanisms which allows you to do clutch-less upshifts safely, whereas in normal bikes like R15, Dominar, there are no such mechanisms. Hence it is not advised to do so. Regarding your harsh gear shifting, I'd suggest you go to the service center, show them the problem and get the issue sorted under warranty. Do not tell them that you did clutchless upshift as that will void the warranty.

Ashish | 7 years agoI bought Dominar 400 on 7th April 2017 i dont know what bajaj has done with this bike i bought dominar with ABS model and the secondary screen pannel on tank does have ABS sign. That guage which was installed was of Non- ABS model. I went to the showroom from where i bought and they told me when you will go for servicing your issue will be resolved. I used bike for next 1 week and make it ready for service at 520km. When i went to the service station i was surprised to see that no one was aware about the issue and every one was trying to convence me that its not any issue this is normal No ABS sign in guage. I visit the showroom and see other ABS bike they all contain ABS logo in secondary guage. When i make pressure on staff then they agree that there is an issue they look nearly 5 hours to service my bike and eventhough my issue is unresolved yet. They told me it will took 1 month to bring new meter and get it fitted. And even petrol meter is also not working properly when you are using bike petrol meter cells will not reduce and once you stop bike and turn off the ignition and again turn on you will see a drastic drop 2-3 cell drop suddenly.
Veenit | 7 years agoHi I have bought a Dominar 400 on 24th march and I have already clocked around 1800 Kms and I usually use the bike for daily commute for office purpose. I have taken it to the limits on highway clocking around 129-135 KM/H after my first service and doing more then 1000 kms as suggested by the dealers, but two times after a halt of continuous riding at that speed I have seen smoke coming out from the exhaust beneath the engine. Is it something I should be worried about or what could possibly be the reason for it?
Veecheet | 7 years agoHey... My dominar done around 1600kms and obviously got the first servicing done. Noticed that squeaking sounds were coming from the front brakes and handle. The noises grew with time to such an extent that I took it to the service center. They said it might be a lubrication issue and did the same. Although the squeaking sounds aren't pronounced like before I still hear it softly at times. Is it normal?
Praveen | 7 years agoyajat The Dominar 400 has the KTM 390 Duke's engine. It has been detuned for the Dominar.
Praveen | 7 years agoRakesh_Rao Heating issue is normal, but it shouldn't heat to such an extent that it's painful. Have a word with the customer service manager and insist that your issue is genuine and needs fixing. You could also let him take a test ride and make him see for himself.
Arjun | 7 years agoRakesh_Rao Are you using the bike in heavy traffic? The 390 engine get heated up in stop go traffic. I know it's irritating, but that's the case with most bigger engines. Usually this doesn't happen in highways or continuous driving but the 390 engine is known for heating during stop go traffic. I have the same issue with my Duke 390, but it's not too bad if you are wearing jeans. The issue was quite evident on dukes before 2015 but the 2015 update changed the fan which improved things. I am not sure if the updated fan was used on the dominant but I expect so.
Rakesh | 7 years ago
Do check the engine coolant levels. Chances are they may not have been topped up properly. Also, check for coolant leakages. Make sure you go to the authorised service center and get the issue sorted under warranty. Hope this helps. And after 1st service it will reduce. is it same with everyone?

Praveen | 7 years agoJay_Singh Mileage also depends on the riding style. If you tend to hold onto the gears longer/ ride aggressively then the efficiency will go down. But as Rajesh Jalubula says, the bike needs to be ridden with care during the run-in period. The bike is capable of doing more than 112 kph but if your bike has crossed 1500-2000 km and if you're still facing performance issues, then do get it sorted under warranty. Contacting the customer manager and communicating with him/her helps. Jay | 7 years agoGot my Dominar serviced a few days back and m still getting 21 kmpl mileage. I have heard from other owners that they are getting 25 to 33 kmpl. I drive 70% on highway 30% in city traffic and the maximum speed goes up to 112 kph. Is there any problem with my bike?

Vivek | 7 years agoRajesh Jalubula Hi, I too have the same problem as mentioned by Rajesh, but mine does not even touch 80, let alone 90s and it never hits 5k. Only on long stretches where there is enough road, it touches 80 and it momentarily hits 5k rpm at that time before dropping down to 4.5k. Should I be worried or should i just wait it out till the first service and tell them this.
Deepak | 7 years agoRajesh Jalubula Hi Rajesh, Check your cooling fan is working or not ? Or you bike shows overheating sign ? This happened with my RS200 once because cooling fan was not working. And because of overheating ECU was controlling the RPM at max 5K only. Check with the service center. This is not a big issue to worry.

Arjun | 7 years agoPraveen The rpm limiter in the KTM was just a red warning light. It wasn't really choking the engine. This seems to be some other issue.I had crossed the 5k set limit on my bike on a couple of occasions and it was only a red warning light that would turn on. This seems to be some other issue. The mechanic having no idea about it makes me feel its not about the limiter. I have seen the limiter on other vehicles and it doesn't reduce the rpm but will keep it maxed up at 5k. Here, there seems to be a fuel cutoff.
Praveen | 7 years agoHello Rajesh Jalubula , it was nice of you to post this on the forum. I think the issue you've faced is the running-in rpm lock. KTMs used to have this feature. During the run-in period, the engine rpm is restricted to prevent damage to the engine. Initially, the wear and tear is higher due to the brand new engine internals. That's why it is advised to take it easy during the initial 700-1000 km or so. So, after the run-in period is over and the service is done, the full rpm level is unlocked and you can go as fast as the bike can take you. Since the Dominar has the engine borrowed from KTM 390 Duke, I suspect this feature has been carried over in this bike also. If I'm right, then it's surprising that even the Bajaj mechanics did not know about it! Glad that your issue is resolved. If possible, do put up a detailed ownership review with pictures so that fellow Dominar owners and prospective customers would find it useful. Thanks and cheers!!
