With the almost all Porsche 911’s gaining turbos, does the 911 Turbo and 911 Turbo S make any sense? Well, yes, it does. Here’s why. Putting out 533bhp and 572bhp respectively, a 20bhp hike in power compared to the older version, the 911 Turbo and Turbo S models will undoubtedly be that fastest in the range. While the Carrera and Carrera S models got a downsized 3.0-litre turbocharged engine producing 370bhp and 420bhp respectively, the Turbo and Turbo S retains the previous 3.8-litre turbocharged unit and with the aid of the standard seven-speed PDK gearbox, it reaches a ton in 2.9 seconds and 2.8 seconds respectively. Now, that’s super quick. Both versions now come with a dynamic boost function too. Top speed now stands at 320kmph and 330kmph respectively. On the styling front, the updated models get all-new LED headlamps and reshaped vents at the front. At the rear, they a new set of exhaust pipes, engine cover and reworked tail lamps. In profile, the only difference is the 20-inch standard wheels. The Turbo and Turbo S also benefits from a new steering wheel derived from the Porsche 918 Spyder hypercar. The steering wheel comes with a Mode Switch which lets the driver select between Normal, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual driving modes. The cabin also gets brand new sports seats, a seven-inch touchscreen for infotainment system with satellite navigation, dual-zone climate control, Bose speakers and leather. Drivers can now write their destination on the big screen and a smartphone can be connected with the aid of a cable, Bluetooth or even WiFi. All Turbo models will be equipped with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), Porsche Stability Management (PSM) and the Sport-Chromo package comes as standard. On the options-list is a radar-based lane-change assist feature (unlikely to come to India thanks to our legislations) and a lift system that can raise the car by 40mm at low speed (very useful here). With that extra dose of power and all those features, the Porsche 911 Turbo and Turbo S does indeed make sense, doesn’t it.

Buick unveiled a stunning concept at the Detroit Auto Show called the Avista. The Avista is a 2+2 coupe with two vestigial rear seats. The swoop coupe is based on the Chevrolet Camaro platform. The rear-wheel drive concept car is powered by a twin-turbo V6 producing 400bhp. An eight-speed transmission sends all those horsepower to rear wheels. It would be a shame if they didn’t as this is one of the best designs to come out of Buick in a long long time. the manufacturer calls its new design philosophy New Buick Styling. What stands out the most in the concept is that gorgeous-looking grille. The Avista sports a chainmail-type mesh, kind of like the ones seen on Cadillac’s sporty saloons. The concept also gets 20-inch wheels which despite their size barely hides the disc brakes behind. A side-on profile reveals taut lines and smooth creases. Buick says some of these design elements will make it to their production cars. Even though a concept, there’s not a single line on the car that wouldn’t look out of place on a production car. In fact, it could well be GM’s best looking car. How many years do you reckon it will take GM to put into production?

Ford showcased a high performance verseon on one of their best selling cars in America - The Ford Fusion. The Ford Fusion V6 Sport gets a twin-turbocharged V6 engine (duh!) sending power to all four wheels. The 2.7-litre EcoBoost motor puts out an impressive 325PS and 475Nm of torque, far more than that of the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. The sporty edition of the Fusion also gets automatic adjustable damping that tunes the suspension depending on the road condition. The Ford Fusion V6 Sport also gets an aggressive exterior design to complement all that power. It gets larger and deeper air intakes and the grilles are finished with a gloss black-finish mesh. to put all the power down on the road, the Ford Fusion V6 gets large 19-inch wheels. At the rear, the car gets an all-new little spoiler to set it apart from the stock model. Another distinguishing factor is the dual exhaust outlets at the rear. In terms of technology, the Ford Fusion V6 Sport comes with a pedestrian detection system, like the ones on the Volvo S60 T6 which Roshun got to test a while back, and also features a parking function. Now Ford, just bring it to India under your ‘One Ford’ strategy will you.
