Petrolheads in India rejoice for the Godzilla has finally set its foot here in India. The iconic Nissan GT-R was unveiled at the Auto Expo 2016. The GT-R, which was supposed to be launched here way back in 2008, will finally be launched in September this year. Nissan Chief Planning Officer Andy Palmer has already said that the company is not worried about sales figures for the GT-R but instead it wants the GT-R to be a statement of Nissan’s technological prowess. The Nissan GT-R R35 has been on sale for a while now in international markets. The current car uses a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 that churns out 554bhp @ 6400rpm and a peak torque of 463Nm which is produced anywhere between the 3,200-5,800rpm band. The motor is mated to a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission with various modes for optimum power delivery in different situations. The best part of the transmission, in my opinion, is the rev matching the ‘box does while downshifting quickly. Thanks to all-wheel drive and other tech wizardry, the GT-R has a claimed top speed of 315kmph but there are lunatics out there who have managed to extract 400kmph through some heavy modifications too. Nissan also claims that the GT-R can lap the Green Hell that is Nurburgring Nordschleife in 7 minutes and 8 seconds, one of the fastest times for any production car at that track. Talking of wizardry, the GT-R gets an awesome launch control function that helps it reach a 100kmph from standstill in a ludicrous 2.7 seconds. Woah! Thats faster than any Ferrari or Lamborghini you might have stashed in your garage. Nismo, the performance wing of Nissan is responsible for making some mad cars in the past like the Nismo Juke. Now, they have produced a GT-R that puts out 591bhp and can touch a ton in a shade more than 2 seconds. The standard car could cost anywhere between Rs 1.5-2 crore. That’s a lot less than what you’d pay for a Ferrari 488 or a Lamborghini Huracan.
