Q.Next-gen Fiat Punto rendered!

Meh. I love the Giorgetto design of the Punto so much more - thank goodness they are going to give this a new name.

Here are the spyshots of the upcoming Fiat car. It is said to make its debut in the Latin American market in the second half of 2017. Fiat is likely to launch the successor to the Fiat Punto in Brazil in August 2017. According to Auto Esporte, the new hatchback is likely to ditch the Punto nameplate. Fiat hasn’t yet revealed what the next-gen hatchback will be called. The Brazilian media has started calling it the ‘Super Palio’. The next-gen hatchback, the report says, will be based on a stretched and updated version of Fiat’s 326 platform that underpinned the second-gen Palio (the Palio that did not make it to our country). This platform will also spawn a sedan to replace the Linea as well. The engine lineup will consist of a 1.3-litre GSE engine producing over 100hp and 138Nm of torque and a 1.8-litre E.torQ EVO engine. There will be three gearboxes to choose from - a 5-speed manual, 5-speed automatic and a 6-speed automatic.

Nice design, Fiat should improve the quality of material inside though.

The Fiat stand at the Auto Expo this year was quite disappointing to say the least. Other than showcasing cars that were over a decade old and concepts based on these very cars, they didn’t have anything else worth my attention. The only reason, in my opinion, the Fiat Punto still doesn’t look dated in our market is because of that gorgeous design. This version of the car was unveiled at the 2005 Frankfurt Motor Show. The next-gen Fiat Punto is still a good year away. Now, automotive illustrator Gianmarco Giacchina has put his pen to paper and given us this rendering of what the next-gem Punto would look like. The next-gen Punto is currently under development in Brazil. Expect a few design cues from the new Fiat Tipo hatchback to filter into the design of the next Punto along with all new engines including a 1.4-litre GSE (Global Small Engine) petrol motor capable of producing more than 100 horses, a 1.8-litre E.toQ EVO engine from the Fiat Toro pickup and a 1.6-litre E-Torq petrol engine other than Fiat’s Multijet diesels to make it to the next Punto.
