I can only see these numbers going up even further, given the fact that the petrol variants may be even cheaper than the diesel ones.
JOY | 8 years agoRight after the official announcement of the Baleno crossing 1 lakh milestone in India, It seems Maruti Suzuki has more news to celebrate. This time for their Vitara Brezza. It is currently the top-selling sub 4 meter compact SUV in India. The car has crossed 50,000 sales milestone in wait for it.. 7 months. Launched in March 2016, the Vitara Brezza has been receiving heavy demand due to the country's SUV Craze and have already received over 1 lakh bookings. The trust of people in the Maruti badge and the fact that it is sold through regular Maruti dealerships and not through NEXA(like the Baleno) has helped in garnering more bookings in record time. However, Fact is that Supply is not happening according to the rising demand. The Vitara Brezza currently comes with a waiting period of 120-150 days(4-5 months), depending on the variants. Maruti has also revealed that a substantial amount of the bookings are for the top end ZDI+ variants with "dual tone" colors. The company is quite literally flooding with heavy backlog of orders and is behind schedule on deliveries of nearly 50,000 Vitara Brezzas out the one lakh bookings received so far. Maruti Suzuki's quick fix is to make the upcoming plant near Hansalpur, Gujarat up to speed as soon as possible. They are planning to start trial productions of the Baleno hatchback from the first quarter of 2017 in this facility. This will bring down the waiting periods of the Baleno and the Vitara Brezza. It will also take away the heavy work pressures off its plants in Gurgaon and Manesar. Source -auto.ndtv
Motu | 8 years agoJust to add to what Roshun said, the Vitara Brezza is amazingly stable at high speeds and is very confidence inspiring even when taking corners hard Batong_Perme. I think it is because of the stiffer springs.
Roshun | 8 years agoBatong_Perme The Maruti Vitara Brezza feels good to drive. The engine is the tried and tested 1.3 DDis 200 diesel, putting out 90PS of power and 200 Nm of torque. I did find it a bit noisy though, as the sound insulation in the cabin is not that great. You can hear the diesel clatter quite significantly, but its not really a bother. The engine is responsive and turbo-lag is not that bothersome either, and gears are pretty slick. The suspension is slightly on the stiffer side, so it does tend to pitch about a bit at the rear. Yet, it can handle bad roads quite well without the fear of it bottoming out.
Jijo | 8 years agoVitara Brezza which is currently the "largest selling SUV" in India has clocked over 95,000 bookings. Maruti Suzuki has managed to sell about 27,000 thousand of them, and the backlog currently stands at 68,000 units. No wonder the waiting period for the same have shot upto 9 months.
Roshun | 8 years agoWaiting periods for the Maruti Vitara Brezza compact SUV may come down. According to a report in the Economic Times, Maruti is planning to increase production of the Vitara Brezza to 10,000 units a month, starting July. Initially, Maruti had planned to produce only about 80,000 Vitara Brezza compact SUVs a year, a number it had to soon revise to 100,000 because of the demand. Waiting periods had gone up to nearly 9 months in some cases for the Vitara Brezza. With this revised production figure, Maruti will be able to make about 120,000 cars a year. It still has over 50,000 bookings pending - and it has to deliver Brezzas to these customers. As mentioned elsewhere in the forum, the Brezza is also likely to get a petrol engine later this year. That engine is likely to be the 1-litre BoosterJet (turbo-charged petrol engine) that will also come in the Maruti Baleno RS.
Roshun | 8 years agoThe Vitara Brezza lends itself to quite a few customization ideas, half of which Maruti already has. I mean, I really like the dual tone colour on the Brezza - and I'm glad that it comes as original fitment that way. The person who has modified the Brezza above, has done a neat job of getting rid of that excess chrome. However, I just wish he had removed that chrome strip from the side cladding as well. Just matt black and red all around would look fantastic. I still don't get this obsession with chrome that manufacturers have these days. That grille looks pretty neat and a bit Skoda-like if you ask me.
Jijo | 8 years agoPerhaps, the first modified Vitara Brezza! This is the one shade in which the black contrast roof makes the vehicle look elegant. Now, to this particular car. Seen are new black grille, blackened headlamps and Land Rover like Vitara badging on the bonnet. Vitara Brezza also sports new cladding on wheel arches while aftermarket tyres with Vossen multi-spoke wheels are also add to overall appeal. Like it?
Jijo | 8 years agoVitara Brezza becomes the largest selling SUV in India in the month of May, if you can call it one:p 7193 units of Vitara Brezza was sold, Hyunda Creta sales stood at 7057 units. Mahindra vehicles such as the Bolero, Scorpio and KUV100 sold somehwere in between 4000-5000 units. So, what happened to the Ecosport then? Close to 3,000 units. No stopping Vitara Brezza then!
Nikil | 8 years agoCorsaVeloce, konarktyagi and I just took a Vitara Brezza ZDI+ for a short drive. First impressions, the 1.3-litre Fiat-sourced diesel engine (badged DDiS in the Maruti) is a delight on the Brezza. Maruti has tuned the Brezza so well that it feels slightly sporty as compared to other Maruti cars. Turbo lag is still present, but it feels much more contained when compared to the Swift, Baleno, Ciaz and S-Cross 200 DDiS. The suspension is stiffer than the S-Cross but this stiffness bodes well for highway driving where the Brezza feels planted. Body roll is minimal to boot. However, I found the rear to be a bit uncomfortable on slower sections of broken roads with the Brezza hopping about like a mad rabbit. The Brezza feels like a much better handler on the highway when compared to the EcoSport but the Ford feels way better in traffic conditions inside the city. On the inside, the Brezza feels a lot more spacious than the EcoSport but carrying five onboard will still be a squeeze. The rear legroom is one of the best in class but the bench lacks under-thigh support and the seatback could have done with better bolstering. A central armrest is offered on the ZDI trim. The front seats, on the other hand, are good with enough lumbar support. Thigh support was good for someone my height (5'5) but for a taller person like konarktyagi , it could have been better. Like all Maruti's, the interior doesn't fell all that special with plastic quality being sub-par when compared to the EcoSport. The Brezza shares a lot of equipment with other Maruti cars like the Ciaz and the S-Cross like the power window switches (borrowed from the Swift actually), lamps and sunglass holders (Ciaz and S-Cross) and HVAC unit too. However, the saving grace is the large touchscreen infotainment system which the EcoSport lacks. But that is one thing I don't really mind as I am against touchscreen units on cars as I feel it is a source of distraction in this day and age where everyone is glued to their smartphone even while having dinner :x Also, I find Ford's Sync system's Emergency Assist System a boon in a country like ours where half the drivers are lunatics with no road sense whatsoever. One factor where I think Maruti could have done a better job was the addition of rear AC vents (come on, even the Ciaz has one). If the Brezza had come with the rear AC vents and a much suppler rear suspension, then I'd gladly recommend it to anyone who wants a compact SUV but wants to be chauffeur driven. The mods will soon be pitting the Brezza against the EcoSport 1.5 TDCi, so watch out for this space for a proper comparison and review of the most sought after cars in the market.
Arjun | 8 years agoI agree the sales for the Ecosport is lesser as compared to the Brezza, but it looks like the sales for Ecosport has improved as compared to last month. The reason here would be the price cut. Compared to 2638 units sold last month, in the month of March , Ford has sold 4456 units of the Ecosport, which is more than 60% increase in monthly sale. It is higher even comparing it to the sales for Ecosport in the month of March 2015. So, for Ford, this is a good news, that even after its launch, the Brezza was not able to eat into its market.Similarly, the Duster has also reported a better sales figure as compared to last month thanks to the new Duster. However, as compared to the sales last year in the same month, Duster sales has come down a lot. Other SUVs like TUV300 and Hyundai Creta also have not lost sales. Now in terms of losing numbers, it is Baleno who has recorded a fall in its sales, and I believe it can be as people may be converting their booking for the Brezza. I don't think selling more than the Brezza was what Ecosport aimed. The Brezza has managed to pull people from Hatchbacks and also has widened the compact SUV segment. Also, as most of the cars dispatched in March, would be bookings done before the launch of the Brezza. It would be the sales for the month of April which may give us a better picture about Brezza's impact on the market.
Jijo | 8 years agoLaunched on March 8th, Vitara Brezza recorded sales of 5,563 units, while the Ford EcoSport recorded sales of 4,456 units. That is good 1100 unit margin over its rival! These sales figure are for the month of March.

Jijo | 8 years agoTake a look at the prices of Maruti Vitara Brezza accessories. These can be bought directly from the showroom. These would mainly be useful for the LDI / VDI variants, as some of these things are standard on the ZDI / ZDI+ variants. Arjun | 8 years agoIt looks like all the action is happening in the compact SUV segment. On one hand Creta is reaching 1 lakh bookings, and then we have another record breaker Brezza already reaching 25k units. Maruti played it well, by keeping Brezza with the Maruti brand instead of the Nexa brand. This made its reach much wider than the limited Nexa network.

Roshun | 8 years ago
These are Ecosport launch prices! My reading is that the reason for this is also the fact that >10L cars will be taxed differently. Ford has expectedly brought all the Ecosport variants below the 10L barrier.
Ford has an updated EcoSport coming next year, but it's going to be an interesting battle to watch for. While the Brezza is going to definitely chalk up good numbers, buyers will probably soon tire of the waiting periods, as is the case with the Baleno and the second de facto choice is likely to be the EcoSport. In other news, here's ZigWheel's video review of the Brezza:
Kaiserketkar | 8 years ago
The competition strikes back. It has also reduced prices of the petrol variant (remember, Brezza still does not offer a petrol option) by about Rs. 75,000 on all petrol variants. See the price chart below. Jijo | 8 years agoThings get real interesting now! A 1.5 litre diesel Titanium+ Ford Ecosport is now similarly priced as the ZDi+ Vitara Brezza! Ecosport sports a 100PS engine, compared to Brezza's 90PS. Ecosport Titanium+ also gets six airbags, ford's sync voice command system among others. Confused?

See the price chart below:
We should thank Maruti to force Ford to bring down the prices. Now, we have a great engine, at a much better price. However, Ford should also make safety features as standard across its variants, at least airbags , like it did for the Figo twins. I guess that would be coming with the next refresh or update.

Jijo | 8 years agoSo it will all come down to Tata Nexon vs Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, once the former gets launched in a few months time! So we couldn't wait to compare the two with what available information we have. To the looks, and that is what matters the most in India I guess (everybody just loves SUVs) - Small hatches pretending to be crossovers, crossovers pretending to be compact SUVs, compact SUVs pretending be real SUVs! Vitara Brezza and Nexon are basically crossovers, based on hatch-back platforms. So what you get is rugged looks, good ground clearance, a bit more powerful engines and that much extra space inside - makes sense in India! Tata has been working on its design, performance & build quality for long. Zica/Tiago was the first out of the factory, with an impressive design, more features and better build quality. Nexon being the next, follows the same trend. Let's look how the upcoming Nexon will fair against the recently launched Vitara Brezza. The styling of the Nexon is fresh,Tata has kept that family look with that "smiling face", aka humanity line! Looks nice, but, does not have that butch and purposeful look of the Vitara Brezza. Brezza gets a detailed chrome grille that joins the two headlamps, sporty bumper and blacked out air-dam. This is complemented by silver skid-plate, helping it look quite butch when compared to the Tata Nexon. The side profile of the Tata Nexon has those nice character lines, sloping roof and that dual-tone paint job. The raised ground clearance and muscular fenders do look quite purposeful. Vitara Brezza on the other hand, looks plain - the only saving grace is that floating roof effect and squarish wheel arches. Nexon at the rear sports clear lens tail-lamps and overall design is quite smart to look at. But, i am not too sure about the mis-match of colours! Breeza has played it safe with wraparound tail-lamps (that look a lot like the ones on the S-Cross), thick chrome bar and a sporty rear spoiler, making it look quite good. The Tata Nexon's interiors are years ahead in terms of overall design, plastic quality and ergonomics. Don't you guys agree? Both cars are matched even when it comes to equipment. Nexon, surprisingly has more space inside, than the Vitara Brezza. Take a look at this spec comparison. More power and torque will definitely make Nexon an exciting car to drive! Tata definitely has a winner here, hope they price it aggressively (maybe undercut the Vitara Brezza, variant by variant). Of course, we will update this with more specs for the Nexon once we fish them out.
JOY | 8 years agoI don't have any complaints on the boxy part because we've seen more brick like C.SUV's like the TUV300.We have to remember the Ciaz and S-Cross concepts made it similar to what was shown at the Auto expo-14?,Its Just that showing the XA Alpha and saying that we're building it then giving us the Brezza, is like building the Qutub Minar and ending up with the Renmin Ribao building..Yes Offence :D. Making a True blue SUV means it's gonna be a lot more expensive(Product Price and R&D),It Should be as abuse friendly as the competitors and less fuel efficient than what Maruti products usually are(Nobody would buy a 1.3 Multijet ~2 Tonne SUV,putting in the 1.6 would kill the S-Cross as that is the one of its USP) and there's always a chance that it may win/fail in the market.Keeping Brezza under 7-11 lakhs with a 24kpl rating, they have played it smart ensuring mass market sales which would get them steady YOY sales.Besides Compact-everything is the way forward.Solves everything(pun intended).I can't wait to see Compact Lorries,Trains, bikes, etc;)
Themallustig | 8 years agoRoshun Read the review, Cons- Engine response, "acceptable performance" and is comparable to the likes of Swift & Baleno! With 90PS of power and a good power to weigh ratio, I had honestly hoped for better! And the plastic quality inside, why hasn't Maruti worked on that? (Look at Tata). NVH levels is reportedly bad, when you rev the engine above the 3000rpm mark + wind and tyre noise filtering in at descent speeds.
Nikil | 8 years ago
NikilSJ To me,and its only my personal opinion, the Brezza looks a little bit too boxy and plain Jane for a brand new product(May be i have still not forgiven Maruti for changing the gorgeous XA Alpha concept to this).
That boxy design would have worked well if it was on a true blue purpose driven SUV rather than a compact SUV for the urban masses don't you think?

Nobody has even put out a review yet! who is buying them?Even Maruti's capacity of 80-100 thousand Brezzas in a year looks quite inadequate. Say hi to long waiting periods then!
Wow, that is almost 2 bookings per minute. Long waiting periods are Maruti's trademark. Be it Celerio AMT, Swift, Baleno and now Brezza, all had super long waiting periods. In the segment like Brezza, most of the buyers would be those who would be upgrading. They would not have a problem holding on to their old car and wait for the new Brezza. It seems Maruti's customers are just like Honda two wheelers. Many people I know purchased an Active without a test ride, just thinking that so many people cannot be wrong. The same herd mentality would be applicable here too.

Shreyans | 8 years agoBreeza will do decent numbers, we can be sure of that given the clout of the badge and the absolute size of the dealer network. It should start strongly but I dont think it will sustain volumes for long. Car for car, I dont think it makes a strong case for itself against the Ecosport. The Ford looks modern and up to date despite being an older product, without having to resort to childish two tone paint jobs. All engine options are more competent, especially the diesel. Its drive quality is really good and will be a hard act to match. Crucially, the Ecosport has much better build quality. It is a proven product. I am just not convinced about the longevity of these modern superlight Marutis. As such, their cars age quickly and develop all kinds of rattles in no time. That might be tolerated by budget buyers but as any dissatisfied 4th City user will tell you, 10L buyers won't put up with it. Then there is the TUV, whose size, presence and bad road ability have their own set of fans. Competition is tough and the product has to be really good.
JOY | 8 years agoNikilSJ IMHO The Ecosport facelift has a more up to date/overall better design than the Brezza. To me,and its only my personal opinion, the Brezza looks a little bit too boxy and plain Jane for a brand new product(May be i have still not forgiven Maruti for changing the gorgeous XA Alpha concept to this). The Front end of the Ecosport facelift gives the car a much bigger look than what the vehicle actually is.The Headlamps and front end is clearly a shrinked cut-paste job from the Ford EDGE.I quite like it over the Brezza but unless FORD does that magic with the pricing like what happened with the Ecosport launch,I don't think it will pose a serious challenge to the Brezza sales in anyway because of the 'Maruti Badge Effect'.
Jijo | 8 years agokonarktyagi Lower model come with 205/60 section tyres. The Zdi/Zdi+ variants get 215/60 section tyres. The difference in tyre profile/height is based on the width of the tyre, it results in about 2.5 centimeter difference (25mm) in ground clearance.
Konarktyagi | 8 years agoRoshun Great Comparison, why is it that the ZDi variant of the Vitara Brezza has 27mm more ground clearance than the VDi variant?
Nikil | 8 years ago
I am sure Ford will try its best to save its lone warrior and get back to the business. If its not able to do that, it would become another story like Fiat.
Exactly what I was thinking Arjun. I'd hate to see Ford go down that road. What Ford needs is an all-new campaign and more publicity. People still think Ford's are expensive to maintain and that needs to change. They should also consider sprucing up their showrooms a bit too I think.
Arjun | 8 years agoFord has been increasing the price of the Ecosport gradually ever since it launched. As it was facing very little competition, they had been increasing the prices on a regular basis. On Creta's launch, they did a features update to match with the Creta. I am sure they can afford a pricing update with the Ecosport now and they would be waiting for the Brezza's introductory prices to give way to higher actual prices. Ecosport is still the highest seller for Ford. The Figo and Aspire sales did not reach Ford's aspirations and I am sure that they would not let Brezza run over the success of the Ecosport. This update would sure get a lot of attention. The grill has the indications of being taken from the Endeavor design, and it is certainly going well with the Ecosport. I am sure Ford will try its best to save its lone warrior and get back to the business. If its not able to do that, it would become another story like Fiat.
Nikil | 8 years agoNext year will be a true test for the Ford EcoSport, especially after the facelift arrives. Can it fend off the Vitara Brezza then, what do you think Arjun, JOY MRC and others? Roshun | 8 years ago
Yes I agree with Arjun that Maruti needs to bring in a turbocharged three pot to compete with the Ford EcoSport. I hope they bring the BoosterJet sooner rather than later.
The grape vine has it that Maruti has not launched the petrol variant now because it is waiting for the 1-litre booster jet petrol to come out. This three-cylinder turbo-charged petrol unit puts out 110PS of power and 170 Nm of torque. That torque figure - 170 NM - is comparable with Ford EcoSport's 1-litre Ecoboost petrol engine, although the EcoSport EcoBoost puts out 123PS of power. Maruti is apparently waiting for the boosterjet to first make an appearance in the Baleno RS variant, before dropping it into the Brezza's bonnet. With the price differential narrowing between petrol and diesel fuel prices and with the growing debate about diesel being a dirty fuel, a lot of people are seriously looking at petrol options, which will bode well for the Brezza. Want to check out how the Suzuki BoosterJet engine works? Take a look at this video:

Arjun | 8 years agoIt looks like the Brezza is the lightest compact SUV out there. Its good that Maruti decided to give the VGT to the Brezza and not the FGT. Can we expect SVHS on this soon? Its very close to the Ecosport in terms of dimensions, but still manages to look bulky at least in the pictures. Its going to be a really close call between the the Ecosport and the Brezza, but we should not forget that Ford offers top notch safety features with the Ecosport. 6 Airabgs, and automatic with ESP is something that will keep the safety conscious crowd towards the Ecosport. The same crowd will also be worried about the Brezza's light weight. I think the biggest blow would be to TUV300. The Brezza has butch looks, nice power and a cleaner design as compared to the TUV300. This would also kill the updated Quanto (Nuvosport) before it could even step in. One major disadvantage for the Brezza now is the lack of a petrol engine. With the reducing price gap between petrol and diesel , and the anti diesel regulations coming up, a lot of new car buyers are preferring petrol engines again. A turbo charged petrol engine, in order to compete with the Ford 1.0 Ecoboost is something that Brezza needs to bring in soon.
Roshun | 8 years agoMaruti launched the Vitara Brezza compact SUV today, March 8. See Launch report. This compact SUV obviously competes directly with the Ford EcoSport and the Mahindra TUV300, but more importantly, it just might swing buyers away from two of the Brezza's own siblings - the Maruti Baleno and the Maruti Dzire. Sure, one is a premium hatchback and the other is a compact sedan, but given the price point - the Brezza is likely to fall in the consideration set of people looking to buy these cars. If I had between Rs. 7 lakh and Rs. 10 lakh to spare, I would definitely be making these comparisons, if I was out car shopping. So would the Maruti Vitara Brezza be a better alternative to the Maruti Baleno, the Maruti Dzire, the Mahindra TUV300 and the Ford EcoSport. I'm just going to put down some tech specs to make it easy for you to compare them. Here is the full road test review of the all-new Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. Maruti Vitara Brezza vs Maruti Baleno Advantages of the Maruti Vitara Brezza over Maruti Baleno The Maruti Vitara Brezza clearly has an advantage if you were looking for a vehicle with great ground clearance and the butch looks of an SUV. The Vitara comes with 198 mm - 225 mm of ground clearance depending on the variant you were picking. The Baleno only has 170 mm of clearance. The Baleno and Brezza both use the same diesel engine - 1.3 litre, four cylinder, multijet - but in different states of tune. The Brezza puts out 90PS of power while the Baleno puts out only 75PS of power. However, thanks to the weight savings in the Baleno, it's not that underpowered. The Brezza only just manages to pip the Baleno on power-to-weight ratio (78 bhp / ton vs 77 bhp / ton). The Baleno and Brezza are almost equally loaded with features ranging from push button ignition, CarPlay infotainment system, GPS navigation to powered mirrors, reverse camera etc on the top-end variants of both - ZDI+ and Alpha. Brezza also gets cruise control! Advantages of the Maruti Baleno over Maruti Vitara Brezza The Maruti Baleno still has a lot of things going for it, and will continue to sell on its USPs. Look at the claimed fuel efficiency. The Baleno has a claimed efficiency of 27.39 kmpl, while the Brezza's claimed fuel efficiency is 24.3 kmpl. Those who are looking for mileage above anything else will still go for the Baleno. Look at the space inside the vehicle - the rear seat space in the Baleno is better than the Brezza from our initial impressions at least. Wheelbase in the Baleno is slightly more than the Brezza and that probably is the reason for this. In terms of boot space the Baleno can swallow 339 litres compared to 328 for the Brezza, but that's just a very marginal difference - won't make much difference in real world conditions. Both have 60:40 split folding rear seats on the top-end variants to increase that luggage space if needed. The Baleno also probably has a slight handling advantage over the Brezza, being a hatchback - but we'll not really call that just yet, until we've driven the Brezza. What I think: The Maruti Baleno and the Maruti Brezza will appeal to two different kinds of buyers. The Baleno will appeal to a slightly older buyer, looking for comfort, space and efficiency, while the Brezza would appeal to a younger buyer looking for a sense of adventure. Both cars offer the same level of safety kit of 2 airbags and ABS, while also offering similar convenience features. Maruti Vitara Brezza vs Maruti Dzire Advantage of the Maruti Vitara Brezza over the Maruti Dzire When you compare the Brezza and the Dzire, both are exactly the same length - ducking in under 4 metres. Both use the same engine, again with the Dzire using the lower state of tune in the diesel. The Brezza clearly has a power-to-weight ratio advantage over the Maruti Dzire (which puts out only 69 bhp / ton). Again, the Dzire and Brezza share the platform and components. In terms of features, although the Dzire has been recently updated with push-button ignition, electric folding rear-view mirrors etc, so there's not really much that the Brezza has that the Dzire does not, except for perhaps the CarPlay infotainment system. The key advantage here again, would be the ground clearance, performance and space in the Brezza compared to the Dzire. The Dzire gets a tiny boot at 316 litres and it's not flexible. Advantage of the Maruti Dzire over the Maruti Vitara Brezza The prime advantage the Dzire has over the Brezza is on price - sure there is an overlap, but you get slightly better value with the Dzire. You also get a clear fuel economy advantage - the diesel Dzire has a claimed fuel efficiency of 26.59 kmpl. And of course, for many buyers it will be about body style - the more traditional buyer would still look at a three-box sedan as being more 'elite' compared to a compact SUV. What I think: The Dzire isn't going to be that badly affected by the launch of the Brezza. In fact, they would happily thrive in their own separate markets. The Dzire is currently among the top-three selling cars in India, and will likely continue to stay there. This comparison with the Dzire holds true for those buyers looking at a Honda Amaze vs the Maruti Vitara Brezza too. Maruti Vitara Brezza vs Mahindra TUV300 Advantage of the Maruti Vitara Brezza over the Mahindra TUV300 The only thing that the Mahindra TUV300 and the Maruti Vitara Brezza hold in common is that they are both classified as "compact SUVs". In reality, they are as different as chalk and cheese. The Maruti Vitara Brezza has a huge power-to-weight advantage over the TUV300, as the latter is based on a much heavier ladder-frame chassis, which gives it a power-to-weight ratio of a measly 53 bhp per ton. The Vitara Brezza also trumps in out features - push-button start, power folding mirrors, a superior infotainment system etc. There's no contest on fuel efficiency either, with the Brezza claiming 24.3 kmpl to the TUV300's 18.49 kmpl. Advantage of the Mahindra TUV300 over the Maruti Vitara Brezza The Mahindra TUV300 will appeal to a buyer who wants something really rugged and for those looking for more space. The rear-wheel drive compact SUV can seat seven passengers at a pinch with two jump seats in the boot. It also has more luggage space than the Brezza. It is also more spacious than the Brezza in the first two rows at least, with good shoulder room (it is wider than the Mahindra Scorpio), legroom and headroom. It also looks much, much more aggressive - it has that road presence. What I think: The Mahindra TUV300 is all about stance and road presence. The practical side to it would be the space advantage it offers over the Brezza. But for everything else, it's the Brezza that has an advantage here. Maruti Vitara Brezza vs Ford EcoSport Advantage of the Maruti Vitara Brezza over the Ford EcoSport One of the vehicles that the Maruti Vitara Brezza is likely to hit hard is the Ford EcoSport. The EcoSport, I think, has had its day in the sun, and the Brezza will definitely eat into its market share - that is if Maruti can keep its production on track. (I know a couple of folks who dropped Baleno bookings in favour of the Figo / Aspire, just because of the easy availability - so just saying). The Brezza and EcoSport, although with different engine capacities - the EcoSport has a 100PS 1.5 litre diesel - have very similar power-to-weight ratios. The EcoSport diesel has a power to weight ratio of 77 bhp per ton, almost as much as the Brezza. The Brezza has a slight advantage in ground clearance on the top-end variant, but otherwise they are evenly matched. The Brezza also has a slight advantage in terms of claimed fuel efficiency. The Brezza also can seat three abreast, slightly more comfortably than the narrower Ford EcoSport. Advantage of the Ford EcoSport over the Maruti Vitara Brezza Don't rule the Ford EcoSport out just yet. It's still got plenty going for it. It has a slight advantage in terms of boot space - 346 litres compared to the Brezza's 328 litres. It has a slightly larger fuel tank, which would give it just that little extra range. In terms of features, the EcoSport matches the Brezza on most counts - push-button ignition, power folding mirrors, keyless entry, daytime running lamps etc. Ford's SYNC infotainment system is pretty comprehensive to use, just like the CarPlay system that the top-end Brezza comes with. Ford also offers six air bags on the top-end EcoSport. And then there's the petrol variants also to pick from including the 1 litre Ecoboost. Brezza is available only in diesel for now. UPDATE: Ford has just slashed prices on the EcoSport by up to Rs. 1.12 lakh across variants. Here's an update to the ECOSPORT PRICES This makes the Ford EcoSport good value for money now, as the top-end EcoSport comes with six airbags and a lot of goodies, priced very similar to the Brezza. What I think: It would all boil down to the availability and how the Brezza handles. Features and performance are almost similar. This is a pretty well-matched battle. And here's another comparison. If you want to choose between a compact SUV (Vitara Brezza), a crossover (Hyundai i20 Active) or a mid-size sedan (Honda City), take a look at this link: Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza vs Honda City vs Hyundai i20 Active Thoughts on this anyone? @NikilSJ's first impression of the Vitara Brezza, click here.
